No way is Cech a better signing than Schmeichel. Do writers of these pieces have a quota of each top club they HAVE to include?

If you asked me today if I'd rather have van Nistelrooy for 19m, Nugent for 100k, Darren Bent for 2.5m or Anelka for 500k I'd take van Nistelrooy every single time, irrespective of the price tag.

The man was about as close as it came to guaranteed goals since Rush. How many games did he win for United after they'd turned in a terrible performance, but kept it at 0-0?

That presumes everyclub has 19million pounds to spend on a player. Darren Bent was a great buy for 2.5 mill

Certainly are a few in there that are just there to tell a little story - Zat Knight, Cascarino etc.

Don't like his comments about Paul McGrath - "often played while drunk". Just not true. He played a handful of times drunk - he trained a lot while phissed but not in matches.

Can't say that I thought I'd see Michael Chopra in the top 50 transfers.

the essien one is stupid. £24m for a midfielder from the french league isn't fantastic value however good he is.

some of bolton's should be in there. campo, hierro, jaaskelainen, speed were all brilliant signings by them.

Seems to be a conflict in there between the difference in a good transfer and a good player.

Essien is brilliant, easily one of Chelsea's best players, but Lyon absolutely screwed them for the £24m. There's obviosuly the debate over a player being worth whatever someone will pay for them, but if it had been anyone other than Chelsea bidding for him, they'd have got him for less than that.

just pipping Clemence, Souness & Vieira into 50th spot

zola, for example, should be up there in chelsea's best ever transfers.

vieira is a great shout too, from milan's reserves to a world cup winner.

It`s probably the view from the club that sold him. :D
