Trainer Ottmar Hitzfeld hat seinen Abschied vom deutschen Fußball-Rekordmeister Bayern München zum Saisonende offiziell bekanntgegeben. "Ich habe meine Entscheidung dem Verein schon vor drei Wochen mitgeteilt, dass ich im Sommer aufhören werde. Ich werde im nächsten halben Jahr noch mal versuchen, erfolgreich zu sein und möglichst viele Titel zu holen. Dann werde ich mich wieder etwas zurückziehen", sagte Hitzfeld. Für seine weitere Zukunft habe er zwei Optionen: die Schweizer Nationalmannschaft oder einen Expertenjob im Fernsehen.

 

Damit endet die zweite Zusammenarbeit der Münchner nach 1998 bis 2004 mit dem 58 Jahre alten Coach zum Vertragsende am 30. Juni 2008. Hitzfeld hatte am 1. Februar 2007 die Nachfolge von Felix Magath angetreten.

 

Zwischen den Feiertagen hatte sich Hitzfeld in Lörrach mit dem Schweizer Nationalmannschafts-Delegierten Ernst Lämmli getroffen, um erste Sondierungsgespräche über ein Engagement nach der EM 2008 zu führen.
