From what I remember, these guys were uncomfortable with balls in the air in the game in Porto. I think we need to play Crouch upfront.

Reina

Finnan Carra Hyypia Arbeloa

Gerrard Mascherano Leiva Kewell

Crouch Torres

I think we need to offer different kinds of threats and set the team up to best deliver those threats.

- Crouch offers a threat in the air. Kewell and Gerrard can deliver balls from wide areas to trouble Porto

- Torres is a fantastic threat with his pace and runs. Kewell and Gerrard worked a treat against Newcastle and Gerrard was a huge influence given he has 2 CM's that gave him some licence.

- Mascherano and Leiva in midfield are disciplined players that put the boot in and are very comfortable on the ball. Given the way Hyypia was exposed in Porto then these two could provide good protection whilst also giving Kewell and Gerrard licence to threaten Porto via the wings and cutting in to support Torres.

- Whilst not a direct consideration for a match we have to win. Having Gerrard on the right would also put him on the same flank as Quaresma. It could help reduce/nullify one of their strongest attacking threats.

Going to game and have 1 ticket for Kop. Need ticket for a mate.

Willing to trade Kop ticket + face value cash and a few drinks for 2 tickets anywhere in ground.

PM if you can help, thanks.

Horrible thought, the consequences of us losing. Going out of the CL could be used as an excuse.

The flip sid ebeing that if the players care for Rafa, they'll be fired up as hell.

the atmosphere should be rocking, hopefully that will spur the team on

Voronin will start this one and I also would like Riise to come in for Finnan switching Arbeloa to the right.

Porto will get a lot of crosses in from what ever side Quaresma is playing on and it make sense to drop Finnan since he is weak in the air and also will be beaten or pace and get Riise in which is one of our best headers of the ball and which cover his zone in the box a lot better than Finnan.

Reina

Arbeloa Carra Hyypia Riise

Babel Mascherano Gerrard Kewell

Voronin

Torres

I wouldnt mind Voronin either - to be honest I kinda hope Kuyt doesnt play. I think Crouch offers a good threat and Voronin is more subtle than Kuyt. For all his industry, I think we need strikers that are a real threat and Voronin can be that link man for Torres and Gerrard coming from deep.

Thought Kuyt was alright on Saturday

I thought he was awful, but I also thought we only had won 2-0 when the game finished since I missed the first minutes of the second half. :(

thought he was bloody excellent. was colt seavers to torres' clint eastwood.

He was very good - just think that when we are at home and Porto would see a draw as a good result then Voronin and Crouch are better alternatives in attack (IMO)

Conspiracy theory #258: the owners and Rafa play out a spat to generate an atmosphere to make Quaresma brick it, corn rowed ponce that he is.

as always i am focused on training and coaching my team.

Fella that I work with (Scouser working in Dublin) says that the following banner is being made;

"AS ALWAYS WE ARE CONCENTRATING ON SUPPORTING OUR MANAGER"

We'll t*** them, it's no disrespect to them but I get the feeling we'd t*** anyone in the world on Wednesday, just the way I see it going. Anfield rocking and them being completely overpowered facing a tempo they've probably never faced before. They wont be able to cope.

We had half of our defence dismantled just before the game, we had a weaker squad, it was different circumstances and it was ages ago now.
