LondonLiverpoolFan Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 (edited) How did that team of ours never win anything other than the Coca-Cola Cup? Just watched the game again for the first time since it happened on our tv channel. We played some stunning football. Stan and Robbie up front with Rushie to come on from the bench. Barnes, McManaman, Redknapp, Jones, McAteer.... Bloody hell. I couldn't remember how fast we used to be on the break. There were countless occasions during the game where McAteer or Jones would get free on the wings, look up and see 4 or 5 of our players steaming into the box.... Guest petelfc Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Amazing game. Pleasure to be there and watch it unfold. Both teams just going for it.
_00_deathscar Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Because we were leaked more than the 'Lee Kee Boats' company's boats.
LondonLiverpoolFan Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 Yeah I know. Just gutted that we never managed to sort out the (central) defence when we had such a formidable midfield and attack. The back 3 of Scales, Ruddock & Harkness in that game summed it up I suppose!
_00_deathscar Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Scales was a great player. You like to be controversial don't you...?
johngibo YPC Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Scales was a great player. was he f***
Guest Kaizer Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 was he f*** I think he was, easily our best defender at the time, just a shame with all the injuries.
CarraLegend Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 If we had Dan Eggen during the 90s we'd of won the lot.
_00_deathscar Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Titus Bramble was the better of the Bramble/Boumsong partnership. Doesn't mean he was a great player you f***ing imbecile.

John am Rhein Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 How did that team of ours never win anything other than the Coca-Cola Cup? Because a team capable of conceding 3 goals at home isn't generally fortunate enough to play Newcastle every week. That was a great game - along with Dortmund 2001, probably the best game I've ever been at - but it needed two fundamentally flawed teams to make it so.

John am Rhein's favourite game is not a dull 0-0 draw?
abc Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Look at the defence record that season - I think it was second best in the league. The notion that Evans' 3 man defence were shoddy is not accurate - it was only after 96/97 which he switched to a 4-4-2 that we started leaking goals in. Right before the second Newcastle 4-3 match, we were top of the league, with the most goals scored and least goals conceded. And looked very strong to grab our first title in 7 years. And then David James decided he didn't actually want to win the title after all.
_00_deathscar Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Are you comparing Scales and Bramble? Have some respect ffs. I'm saying that being the best of a pretty pathetic bunch does not make you a 'great' player. But that obviously skipped past your thick mind...
Clay Davis Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 If we had Dan Eggen during the 90s we'd of won the lot.blag Puyol who scored against us for Brondby?
Cunny Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I thought Scales was a good player. He was excellent on the ball and a good reader of the game. His problem was staying for and having to play alongside Babb and Ruddock.

I remember that game being our last chance of getting back into the title race and if we didn't win then we had no chance. I had non-Liverpool supporting mates who were really pissed off as well cos we put a dent into Newcastle's attempt to stop the Glams winning the league

Jarg Armani Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 blag Puyol who scored against us for Brondby? "eggen for brondby, egg on face for liverpool" des lynam.
Guest Kaizer Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 It was another pathetic attempt from CarraLegend to try to have a dig at me when he mentioned Eggen since he is Norwegian, it must be terrible to fail so much every time, its time to hang up your keyboard Carralegend, you just dont have what it takes.

It wasn't actually anything to do with you, I just think he looks weird and has a great name so we should of signed him. You want to sort that paranoia out. Most of the forum think Riise is s***e, do you think people are only saying that because of you being Norwegian?

If thats the case, I apologise, but out of curiosity whats great with the name Dan Eggen? He was a decent footballer, a good header of the ball with his microphone head, but thats about it. Today he is the manager of the Norwegian rock band . Edited November 18, 2007 by Kaizer
Guy_Incognito Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 You're thinking of the first 4-3 Ah yeah. That's why he said 'second'
