He seemed to be trying to convice liverpool fans on terrace talk that rafa has lost the plot. Kept going on about taking gerrard off as bieng a discgracefull descision and wouldnt stop harping on about it. Then proceeded to claim that it was "ironic" that lucas was involved in the goal after rafa made the terrible descision to bring him on for gerrard.

What is the mans problem? Gerrard wasnt having a great game, he was being slaughterd all game by all sections of the crowed bar ours (i was in the f***ing main stand, all game all you had was vile s*** aimed at him). Lucas came on, played well made some good passes and ulimatly won us the penalty (with a bit of help from pennant, kuyt, etc).

What was worse was you had liverpool fans calling up and agreeing that benitez is a disgrace for taking gerrard off, is he suddenly immuine from all critasism and not allowed to be rested or miss games? The guy looks fatigued to f*** at the moment.

I just dont understand what his problem is, he an ex player who had great success and a liverpool fan but for some reason he doesnt seem it.

Sick of ex players criticising proven winners be it Rafa or Mourinho or whoever, you have it all the time in the media, usually ex players that have never managed and were never really that successful as players anyway. Who cares what Ian St John, or Andy Gray or Jamie Redknapp has to say about managing, they've never tried it so who are they to judge managers that have a proven track record at the very highest level.

Im all for constructive intelligent criticism but most of what we get in the media is the same old myths peddled as fact, every time we lose its rotation, every time we concede its zonal marking, every time Gerrard plays on the right or gets subbed he wants to leave.

Liverpool seem to have more ex pros than any other club more than willing to gob off to the media when things arent going great. The fact is none of them have managed successfully and the ones that have like Kenny never slag the club off.

truth is Rafa is a proven winner in Spain and England yet these ex players think they have all the answers, its embarrassing.

Think St should think back to Shanks...I don't remember shanks worrying about subbing a player regardless of his standing. Anyway..Rafa is paid to make big decisions and it's Liverpool not Gerrard FC.

For the first 6 years of Shank's reign subs didn't exist, ask Gerry Byrne. After that it was in case of 'iin the case of injury only' so the question is irrelevant.

I agree with you generally though, let Rafa manage. We're playing crap but at lunchtime today we were a point behind the mancs level games played.

That's challenging isn't it?

Thanks for that kernel of truth

Keep up mate. That's despite Rafa, not because of him.

In his bio he had nice things to say about Rafa but I did get the feeling that he was praising Rafa just in order to put down GH even more.

I had to turn City off a couple of times, first with the constant xenophobic rubbish (from Snodin as well) about how well Phil Neville did in not making a fuss of Kuyt's challenge - unlike all those dastardly 'foreigners' who would have been rolling around in faked agony; then when St John shouted down a caller who pointed out that we went on to win, with Lucas playing a crucial part after replacing Gerrard, the Saint claiming that we would have won by 2 or 3 if Gerrard had stayed on. I can't stand bullies with microphones who get all smug that they have 'won' the argument when they haven't, they've just cut them off.

Of course, he's clueless, and how the hell I ended up in Athens, Cardiff and Istanbul within the space of two years with him at the helm God only knows?

St John tried it - and failed. Same with Lawrenson.

And, woeful as we were vs. Marseille, it was a bit much hearing Souness pontificating* about it given the showing his Liverpool teams often gave.

* irony intentional

Indeed. Istanbul was a complete one-off fluke, Cardiff was ALL down to Gerrard and we got our comeuppance in Athens. The fact that the Spaniard has been in charge during this period is purely coincidental. You may not agree, but I'm sure Charlie Nicholas will back me up on this.
