I don't know how many of you are familiar with the right-wing talk radio juggernaut that dominates the American airwaves, but it's a terrible thing. A small number of stations around the country present an alternative voice - typically progressive, pro-union, anti-Bush etc etc. One of those is my local station 1360KLSD in San Diego - listen live at www.1360klsd.com - it's a great little station. However, these small stations are up against significant obstacles, since most of the radio broadcasting establishment in the US is very right-wing and pro-Bush, and thus has a vested interest in keeping progressive voices silent.

Anyway, the station happens to be owned by right-wing mega-corporation Clear Channel - they own most of the stations in the country I believe. Clear Channel have decided that they're going to scrap 1360KLSD, despite pretty good ratings and favourable demographics, and replace it with a Sports Talk station. San Diego already has two of those. And four right-wing talk stations. But only one progressive talk station, and we don't want to lose it.

So there's one of those on-line petitions going around. I don't think these things do much good, but it makes me feel better to know that other people out there also give a damn about this sort of thing. So, if you feel up to it, go ahead and sign - I'll appreciate it! Thanks!
