From PA:

A man who charged football fans to park in his front drive has been fined £3,000.

Money-making Arthur Robert Farnan, 51, who lives in the shadow of Liverpool FC's stadium was warned by the city council he needed planning permission to rent out the grounds of his large Victorian villa on match days.

But Farnan, who according to the council is not alone in charging between £5 and £7 to park at neighbours' homes near Anfield, took no notice and was given the fine by Liverpool magistrates yesterday.

He was taken to court on two counts of breaching an enforcement order.

One related to car parking on 25 October last year when Liverpool beat Reading 4-3. The other was a breach on 3 March 2007 when league champions Manchester United beat the Reds 1-0 at Anfield.

The magistrates ordered Farnan to pay two fines of £1,500 and awarded costs of £1,277 to the council - making a total penalty of £4,277.

They should put their energy into getting rid of the touts.

That'll hurt him, even if he gets 3 cars on the drive it'll only net him about £400 a season!!

there is a black lexus that parks outside the ground on Walton Breck Road, just up a bit from Flag pole corner, and its there most weeks and picks up a fixed penalty all the time

What's the cost of the penalty?

If he/she drives a lexus they probably don't care (and are probably complete c**** also)

I always park at the house next door. Looks like I'll have to find somewhere else now. I enjoyed not having to walk too far.

From the south of the city - through the Wallasey tunnel - where's the best place to park?

Yes. Park 10-15 mins walk away and you'll probably find loads of space. Get the train or bus. Park in one of the other car parks near the ground.

Not exactly rocket science to know of other places around the ground or close by parking wise. Even i know and i don't even drive.

If you're coming through the wallasey tunnel, parking up by Mere lane/Breckfield Rd N isn't too bad. 10 minute walk to the ground and in the right direction for the tunnel.

I either park by the all weather pitches in the Valley or in the side streets by the Cabbage Hall dependant on whether I'm approaching the ground from the North or South of the city

There are a few streets (or used to be atleast when i went with my dad) off priory rd that arent restricted. We always used to park there. Maybe give the scals 50p occasionaly to make sure they didnt let the tyres down but never been clamped or fined. There are loads of places to park as long as you dont mind a 10-15min walk (which is a lot better than sitting in the car going nowhere)

Very few better feelings when yer a kid than walking through the streets around Anfield and then spotting the ground as the streets get busier and busier.

Getting back to the original post..

Why wouldn't all those in the neighborhood who do this ban together and get the planning permission? Surely that beats fines and penalties.

Maybe G&H can lend a hand so that they can increase the stadium capacity with some new found official parking spots..;)

When in the car I always park in the streets around Goodison Park.
