Seeing him score for Villa yesterday at the grand age of 33 reminded me of what a talent he was at times for us during his six years or so that he was here.

One of the ferocious left foots I've ever seen (I'm sure he had lead in his boots  ) and he never seemed to score tap ins either.

Shame his career was and still blighted by injuries, which prevented him having a sustained career with us and after he left.

Used to love watching him play and glad we saw the best of him. When he was on fire, he was feckin unstoppable.

Here are some of his pearlers:

Cracking left foot on the lad comparable to Riise on his best day. Shame about his injury problems as he had so much more to give as a Red. He ws huge during the Treble season and for that I'll always have fond memories when his name is brought up. Oh and the pass to Owen in the FA Cup.....sublime.

He's got a right scouse accent on him. Far cry from his first interview.

He was ace in the treble season til the Leeds injury

Paddy was great for us, always remember him with good thoughts and not bad.

saw an interview with him on tv recently, he was saying how much he loved his time with us and how you never know what an experience it is playing for liverpool until you leave

I particularly remember paddy for his hatrick against Chelsea and THAT PASS to Owen ;):D

More of the LM than a LW but VERY USEFUL, I think oddly enough we have a clone of him now in our youth team, looks the same, plays in the same position and according to rumours plays similarly

how weird is that ( cant recal the name at present thought Insua ?)

Now if Rafa has a clone machine, can we have a J Barnes, a G Mac and K Dalglish please ... hell you can even through an S Heighway in there too :D

Good player. Bar Kewell, probably the best attacking midfielder we've had since since McManaman. Doesn't seem to get much recognition though.

Never really liked Berger. Far too inconsistent.

Weeks of infuriating anonimity would be saved by a screamer every now and then. A five-minute clip of his contribution in a season would make you think he was a world beater but most of the time he was a passenger.

Worked hard too IIRC.

I seem to recall a home match against Villa...97/98 season...lost the ball at the edge of the box on the right attacking the Anfield Road end, and just chased for the ball all the way back to the left back position. He/the team won the ball back because of that.

After the Czech team got to the final of Euro 96, Manchester United bought Poborsky and we bought Berger. At the time, everybody thought Poborsky was the better player, but in the end I realised that we had got the best deal.

Berger was my favourite player of that era. I'm not claiming that he was the best - although a case could be made - but it was just great watching him in action.

One of Paddy's most important talents is his flair and unpredictability. So many midfielders get into a monotonous groove and the opposition work out how to deal with them. With Berger, you never knew what he was going to do next.

he'd kick it very hard at the goal

Remember when he took a penalty? picking the keepers head out the netting.

I always thought he should take the lot. Never seen keepers just try to get out of the way before!

Wonderful player blighted by injuries, and still a fan.

They signed the wrong cheque. Love Paddy, great player, and a fan of The Reds too.
