They were both very complimentary about Anfield and the fans in their post match interview - even if Rosicky clearly doesn't say too much!

Would that be the same Henry who took great delight in rushing over with his finger on his lips to 'shush' the Kop when the first goal went in?

Great, great player but an absolutely classless prick at times. The fact that he from time to time comes out to say nice things about us doesn't change that.

Class player, class man. Deservedly clapped off the pitch by ALL decent, fair-minded people in the stadium and that was before his after-match comments. I suppose you were equally scathing of Steven Gerrard when he cupped his ear down the entire line at Goodison after scoring there a few season's back?

The difference is that Gerrard doesn't say nice things about evertonians after the match.

Henry is a quality player and said some nice things after the match, fair play. But I'm glad that someone pointed out the reaction he had after the 1st and 3rd goals. If Rooney had of done that some would have been throwing mobiles at him! :P

Henry is a arrogant prick a few nice sentiments don't change that fact.

Agree,a great player but I can't stand the c***!

Arrogant? Or just a f***ing confident player knowing how good his ability as a footballer is?

I'd go for the second option. All top players are arrogant in a way anyway, so not exactly shocking is it.

don't think that he's either arrogant or a prick to be honest. given how good he is and has been for the last f*** knows how many years, he could be a damned sight more arrogant than he's ever been.

Easy to be nice about an opposing team you've just beaten.

He wasn't so nice after losing the Eurpean cup final last May. In fact he was a downright prick.

I like him but I'm not going to have a vvank about the fact he likes beating Liverpool FC.

There are quite a few players out there who are completely arrogant classless pr1cks who don't have the talent to back up their ego.

Henry might come across as arrogant on the pitch at times, but he does have the ability and end product to justify it.

And then gestered to the crowd, hand to his ear when he scored himself?

I thought that was uncalled for, specially considering a) The crowd had been fantastic and b) he usualy plays at the library.

Things like that have nothing to do with confidence in his own ability and everything to do with being a classless prick.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be lying if I said that there isn't a part of me that doesn't feel very proud when such a great player speaks highly of our fans or of one of our players (in the way he has done about Gerrard).

It is just that I'm just not fully taken in by him to the extent that I'm going to intepret sushing the crowd and cupping his hand to his ear as signs of respect when any other player would get slated for doing that.

Great player who is at times capable of being very magnanimous but at others can behave like a bit of a c**k.

I've no need to be scathing of Gerrard for that as I've never set him up to anything other than what he is - a great footballer. He is probably a sound fella too, but I don't expect opposition fans to like him and it is entirely fair that they point to things like that incident to back up their dislike. I'd be amazed if it was any other way to be honest.

By the same token, when I see Henry doing stuff like that it doesn't really make me like him much and to some extent makes his nice comments ring a little bit hollow.

I don't actually have a massive problem with the guy, certainly not by comparison with how I feel about other players at rival clubs. I just don't carried with it all.

Disagree with that. I take it as a compliment, when a class player like Henry does somthing like that - it shows how much it means to him as a professional to have "quitened" the crowd with a piece of skill. While the game is on, it's a battle, and he's showing how much it means for him to get the better of us, given how much respect he has for us.

He wouldn't bother with that away at Watford on a rainy saturday afternoon when already 4 up.

Can't say as he comes across as someone I'd like to share a baguette and pot of coffee with, but he epitomises my idea of a top class, confident, classy sportsman

And rooney was just over flowing with respect for us when he did the same thing?

F**k that, a classy player show his respect for opposing teams and fans by clapping them at the end. School boy gestures are for pr*cks.

Without realising it, yes he was. By acknowledging how much it meant to him, he was justifying our existence as a threat to him/his team. Just as we show respect to him by singling him out for treatment.

To be fair though, the 2 are different, in that I can't imagine rooney being anything other than begrudging in praising us in any way at all - that would be the definition of a class less player. In the heat of battle, gestures etc are fine as far as I'm concerned. It's football not chess - he can celebrate how he wants, as can Stevie, gary neville, or anyone else. You give it, and you take it, then you show respect after the game.

Posted

I thought there was no need for the finger to the lips gesture.

That's exatly it, there was just no need.

I don't particularly care how players celebrate when they score, a lot of it over done. Fans should not complain when players gesture to them if they are going to shout abuse, and equally so, players shouldn't complain if fans react and chuck a mutton pie if they are going to openly taunt them.

But AFAIK, henry was not being abused, the crowd were singing pro-Liverpool as opposed to anti-arsenal songs, there was just no need.

stop being so f***ing precious

the gesture is a compliment in a back handed way.....it was obv quite loud and it was on his mind as he mentioned it after

Posted

Funny how some people want footballers to robots..... I think doing the "finger to the lips", "hand to the ear" or "nose to the line" is what makes the game a little more special.....If people can't handle that kind of show off then maybe they should start going to Cricket match's instead....

Another funny thing is people liking Henry because he speaks highly about the Kop....If he had done the same about BlueSh!t Fans or the Scum you would all be saying what an arogant pr!ick he was.....but you know...he would still be the same man....

I don't like him.....there is many player I dislike more than him...feck yes.....but I dont see why I should like him....

I know what you mean, but in fairness by far the most precious comment in this whole thread is the one below:

b****x.

I really wish some people on here would defend some of our own players so blindly.
