even if we wont have the big funds in january,do you think we should spend big on richards,as he is very very highly rated here, and prevent him from going to chelsea?

because it looks like they are planning a trade with the city...

I'd like us to buy Richards. He looks to be a very good player and his speed, athleticim and versatility will make him a valuable squad man. The price will probably be £15M, so unless something has been sorted out with Dubai, it won't happen for us in Jan.

Someone I know inside the club told me it is very unlikely that any funds will be available by the end of the January transfer window. But then, he also told me earlier that it was very unlikely that fowler would come back! If we did have money I think we should try for Bale, the left fullback.

Whether Chelsea want him or not shouldn't be part of the equation. If Rafa wants him then I hope we go in for him and offer not one penny more than our valuation

If that means he ends up at Chelsea then so be it

But right now i'd say our left side is far more in need of quality being added than the right. Much as I rate Riise he's having a mare of a season and we dont have anyone else in the squad i'd trust to replace him

:lol::lol: Is it the same stupid c*** who said Gillet was buying the Club?

Don't worry, he's on his way out of the Club anyway - at least you'll stop being fed bullsh**.

Lets be sensible about this, although Richards is a top player, he's still young and raw and I would have thought Benitez was still switched on to Alves and still has faith in Finnan. There's a lot of guff talked about Finnan in terms of ability and age, when I'd imagine there's at least another four seasons at the top level in him.

Richards, I just dont see him top of any list Benitez has, now or in the summer, think there are others he'd spend that money on, a lot of money for a development player.

I think there is more to come from Finnan beyond 31/32 years of age as his game isn't built on pace and power.

i am not saying finnan isnt good and i am not saying we should buy richards just so he wont go to chavsky.

but as a very promising young english player who could be a long term solution for the right back position, maybe we should spend big on him.

because it looks like it will be very very hard to get alves (surely his value has gone to the roof in the last 6 months and he is now chased by a vast of top clubs) so maybe even if we wont have the hugh funds until the summer,we should buy him.

no, not at all.

The money could be used far better elsewhere, such as on the left hand side of defence. Riise is steady, but nothing special, and is certainly not having one of his better seasons so far.

The tag which has attached itself to more over-priced, average players than any other in recent memory. What has being English got to do with it. The lad looks like a good player. So did Glen Johnson.

We don't particularly need a right back, we have one of the best in the league. We definitely don't need one if we're prioritising areas of weakness in our squad. Then you have to consider that Lucas Neill is coming in too.

And at 15m you'd be mental, which Rafa isn't. If Chelsea are as interested as you think they are there's no point discussing it anyway because they will win any and every bidding war.
