I've been looking at the stats for Gonzalez and he's actually only played 1 full game of 90 mins since he joined us.

He has scored 3 goals: 1 against Haifa, 1 against Spurs and 1 today against Fulham.

Mostly he has been used as a sub or have been subbed late in the game. He played a part in 17 games so far this season: 9 PL, 1 CS and 7 CL games, playing a total of 932 mins.

Here's the stats:

I think he's had a great start here. There's deffo something to build on. Doesn't really look as if Rafa thinks he's able to cope with a full 90 mins yet though, but guess that'll come. What do you reckon? Is he gonna be a star for us?

he's doing ok thats for sure :)

He's had a tough start to life here, with injury and illness hampering him. But even so, he's got some goals, and showed what he can do in a few games.

Rightly so though he's being eased in! He's young, and having to learn a different style (or lack of) football in this league. But so far so good. We always expect so much so soon from players, somtimes they do need a bit of time.

Ive seen enough of him in La Liga last season to know for sure hes going to be a top player. The question is whether he'll be able to adapt to English football but so far the signs i think are good. Its obvious hes being slowly eased into things but i think he has the right attitude to make it here.

Well, he IS supposed to be the Chilean equivalent of David Beckham ;)

You mean needs 10 attempts to get his aim and then be lauded for all eternity because one finally went in?

He has shown glimpses of how good he can be.

Hopefully next season, after hes had a bit of time to bed in we'll see the player that was brilliant in la liga last season.

isnt that approx 3 games and 3 goals ?

9½ total games, if you calculate it into total games.... one goal in ever 3 matches... Friend of mine just told me that the 3 goals Gonzalez has scored this season, is the same amount of goals Harry Kewell has scored for us since the beginning of Dec. 2004...

Aye - that game against Greece was an embarrasment to football

Much as Beckham is overrated, he was the only England player who didn't embarrass himself that day.

england struggled because beckham was all over the place instead of sticking to his position

True, Sheringhams dive to win that free kick was an embrassment though.

aka the Gerrard quandary.

Beckham drifting about didn't transform the others into anonymous entities who refused to show for the ball.

I could understand the criticism if he just drifted about playing like s****, but who gives a feck if he ends up winning the match for you anyway? He did, it was a great solo performance on a day when no one else could be bothered. the end.

he scored one free kick from 82346653 attempts, hardly a great solo performance

but the rest of the team were utter s**** that day

It wasn't just the freekicks that made his performance. He showed drive and high workrate throughout the match, despite the apathy of his teammates.

It's the same kind of 'undisciplined' performance that Gerrard has saved our bacon with a number of times. It's fantastic when it comes off. Makes you look like a t*** if you're doing it without playing well. Gerrard and Beckham have both looked like t***ts on occasion playing like that. Beckham has that good game to his credit. Gerrard too many to mention.

Gonzalez was just starting to show some promising signs against PSV when he got injured.

But he came back yesterday in the same kind of form - it wasn't just the goal, he hugged the touchline, showed some great pace and was pretty exciting to watch.

He was always going to take time to settle in, I've still got high hopes for the lad I think he's got tons of potential...
