I can only think that it may be to show Paletta that he's well thought of and/or to show Sami that he needs to improve quickly because he's got 2 younger players vying for places.

With Riise being able to play LM and Finnan RM, we had the option of playing 3 CB at the back or moving Agger to LB or Paletta to RB

 

Also with Garcia, Aurelio, Kewell and Sissoko out, which midfielder would you've put on the bench besides Zenden?

 

The only player I could think of that could have made the bench that didnt was Fowler - Not sure if he's fit though?

I was a bit surprised too. There was no harm in having Fowler or a player such as Hammill or Anderson on the bench to liven things up.

and ok,paletta is a youngster,but he doesnt need to be on the bench along with another CB.any tactical change rafa wanted to do,he could have done it with only paletta or sami,no need for both.

im sorry,but i hate us being negative about attacking.our team is too much defensive in its attitude.

If he we had brought Sami and Paletta on for 2 strikers then yes that would have been negative. Having them on the bench is not negative.

It's simple - it's just a subtle message to Carra and Hyypia that the youngsters are closing in on them quick. Sami's basically already been caught by Agger and Rafa's just saying "Carra, you're next unless you get the show on the road". That's my interpretation of events.
