So who is the rat in the boardroom ?

Well, my guess is one of two people - either Noel White or Jules Burns. White has the contacts. The press know him of old. He has some importance in the FA and I'm sure most of the press have his phone number. He talks to the press and always has done, so he has to be suspect number one.

Suspect number two is probably Jules Burns, the former Granada TV hatchet man. He's a man who knows nothing about football and had only ever seen a handful of games before his appointment as a director. But he's a fairly ruthless and untalented business executive who came onto the board to look after the Granada interest. The fact that he left Granada a few years back seems to have made no difference to his being on the board. You might in fact wonder what he's doing on the board given that he doesn't work for tGranada any more. The thing is that because he knows so little about football and doesn't care could mean that he's very likely to have made these crass remarks. Burns is still in the media with the Three Media group so knows lots of media people.

Need we look any further than these two ?

By the way, take it from me, it's nothing to do with Morgan

Thought someone said his comments we're taken out of context?

depends on who he said them to. if he said them direct to the journalist then there's no such thing as off the record or out of context.

don't care how the comments got into the Mirror. There are no excuses, his position is untenable and the board must act quickly to remove him and send the right messages.

Someone with that level of misjudgement about Rafa can't be on our board, it makes you wonder about all sorts of decision making in the boardroom.

Has this Director actually watched Benitez work since he arrived, or has he been living in an ivory tower? Did he actually see the kind of heavy rotation Rafa used to win two league titles in three years in Spain? When has Rafa ever stuck with the same side, including throughout the excellent season in 2005/06? Was he chiding Rafa for resting players ahead of the Champions League quarters, semis and final in 2005? And is he not watching what Alex Ferguson is doing at Manchester United, who has rotated as heavily as Benitez in the Prem' this season, but somehow managed to escape being tarred with the same brush? :hmm:

This is a complete non-story. Had the journalist spoken to 95% of the forum - hence Liverpool fans - last week he'd have got the same quotes almost verbatim. Chances are the director was frustrated and unhappy. I, for one, would be more worried were he not. Now he's soft for speaking to a journalist and it will probably cost him his place on the board, but let's not be hearing any sh*te about loyalty please.

Good point. Rafa is a forward-looking modern manager - and the innovators in life are those who look forward, not backwards.

It's the "speaking to a journalist" bit, that has caused people to question the person's judgement. Please correct me if I'm wrong, however, has a Liverpool Director allegedly spoken out like this before?

I would guess he didn't think he'd be 'speaking out' this time. As Stevie H has said elsewhere, nothing is off the record when you talk to the press. It's a serious error of judgment and, as I say, I think he will lose his position for it. I'll be happy with that. It's all this pious pontification about loyalty that sticks in the craw.

it's the cowardly gutless way he's done it as well as the speaking to the press thing that has caused most to question it I'd think.

Sure he's unhappy, but where where the back stabbing comments when Evans and Houllier where managers? Just odd that he's decided to do this now however unhappy. Would think he'd realise he's in a position to show a bit of restraint. Unlike the fans, he gets a monthly board meeting with the manager to discuss how things are going (thank fec the fans don't get one :D ) . Plus to question some transfers so quickly is as knee jerk as many a fan, in which case he doen't deserve the slightest bit of credence.

I'd bet that he - and others - have spoken to the press hundreds of times. Perhaps this time it got printed.

Then he is an idiot

Rubbish to that 95% stat

And why shouldn't we talk about loyalty?

Talk about it all you like, of course. I just think it sounds hollow when there was so much rabid knee-jerking on here last week.

I admit that my stat is not the result of detailed research and analysis. For that I apologise. :D

I was about to post the same thing

what is wrong with people?

id this bloke has blagged tot he press loyalty is the EXACT thing we should be talking about

to be slagging the manager off in his position is unforgivable...he has the platform to air his views behond close doors

root the f***** out and sack him

The manager should have 100% backing from the board after what he has achieved

I don't really disagree. I think it's hollow to talk about loyalty if you yourself were ragging on the manager for exactly the same issues. That's all.

I agree he should be sacked. It's the hypocrisy I don't like.
