Black tie dinner

Been invited to a black tie dinner on Friday night and as far as I'm aware, I've never attended one and I'm unsure as to what this entails. Wikipedia reckon its basis is a dinner jacket (which I am well reluctant to wear) but also says the term leaves a lot to the wearer's interpretation and a plain black suit is suitable but does this mean dickie bows (again, reluctant). Anyone shed any light on what will be expected? It is the Yorkshire Medical Society's annual dinner if that helps?
