Guest 7777 Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 Probably Crewe Alexander. Is the correct answer. In fact, the only academy I would let my lad play for
Gomez Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 John Durnin. The best Masters player to ever have kicked a ball.

Carrick, Rio and Anton Ferdinand, Lampard, Defoe, Joe Cole ..just to name a few. Edited August 5, 2006 by jlfb
Scally the Wag Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 Ferdinand (Rio), Defoe, Johnson, Cole, Lampard, Carrick all played in the same team together - that takes some beating. I know our thoughts on Lampard etc, but for a small club, WHU have done remarkably well to nurture players for the Prem and also make money from transfers.

I thought Ferdinand left before Johnson made his senior debut?

Scally the Wag Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 (edited) Well, WHU are drawing from a much bigger catchment area and offer real support in the way they allow players to develop recognisable talent/potential: they don't go for the best looking kids and then try to adapt them according to fixed ideas about what they (the club) want, the "You're a big lad, you should play at centre half" approach. I come from near West Ham (Upton Park) originally and know the set-up reasonably well: they are very, very good with the kids and their parents. A certain club in West London are the exact opposite. Oh, and regarding Rio & Johnson, I asked this question of a life-long Hammers fan on Monday and he reckoned that they did play together - could have been a slip of memory though, he's even older than me. They certainly were in the same squad. Edited August 5, 2006 by Scally the Wag
