I'm not sure it will be young players that will be the first to go. It'll be at least two years before any of the guilty teams who are subsequently relegated could be back in the Champions League. The old players won't want to stick around like Nedved or Cafu languishing in Serie B as their careers come to an end. I think it'll be those who jump ship first with the clubs able to make some money out of them, enough to keep them afloat for two years, whilst they'll try and keep hold of the young players like Kaka' and Zlatan.

Ostensibly, you're right - but as even the big boys in Italy operate on a basis of ongoing debt unknown in this country, they may have to shed the likes of Kaka and Zlatan etc too if they should go down.

Could be the best chance Matty's Inter have had of winning the Scudetta in decades! ;)

I hope they go down, not because of the players, but because both clubs are f***en RATS and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Imagine the Chavs paying £34M for Chavchenko and one month later they could have got him for £5M :D

He's getting on a bit (28), and bound not to go cheap even if they get relegated.

28 isn't old for a goalkeeper.

After watching Juve 4 times in the CL (vs us and arsenal) I can honestly say I would struggle to find one player to improve our first team.

Our forward line is currently Crouch and Fowler

Theirs is currently Ibrahimovic, Del Piero and Trezeguet

Ibrahimovic - No thank you

Del Piero - No thank you

Trezeguet - Yes as a squad player, not as a first choice striker.

buffon might yet be banned for f*** knows how long if he's proven to have been gambling on rigged matches.

According to Sky's Italian football pundit the other week there's every chance Buffon will be found guilty of betting on footie which carries a minimum 18 month world wide competive ban!

*cough, splutter*. check out trézéguet's goal record. he's a f***ing phenomenal strike rate.

Yes, but in my opinion both him and Zlatan wouldn't be as good in the PL.

In terms of players who could improve us - Zambrotta would be a great acquisition for just about any club in the world.

He's extremely versatile, and pure quality in any of the positions he can play in.

Ibrahimovic is a phenomenal talent, but it'd all depend on the price. I actually think things have gone a bit wrong for him at Juve anyway, and perhaps he needs a move regardless of whether they get relegated, but the price against temperament ratio would be worrying.

It's all very well saying go for Pennant despite his temperament, but he wouldn't cost double figures of millions.

Del Piero is still fantastic but he's Juve through and through and I'd imagine would stay despite relegation; after all they stuck with him when he went crap. Trezeguet is a great goalscorer - exactly what we need really, so he'd improve us as well.

I wouldn't really be interested in any of their old stars, legendary talents though they've been I think there may be some question over their motivation, and we're already strong in their positions; Nedved and Thuram I'm thinking of in particular.

Any of their forwards would improve us, as would Zambrotta. But they'll probably all end up staying, making this a complete waste of time! Maybe Ibrahimovic might leave, but I think if we're willing to pay those kind of prices Rafa would prefer Torres anyway...

Agree that I wouldn't want to pay massive bucks for them but surely if they were relegated we wouldn't have to?

If they go down to Serie B I suppose a lot of their players will stick it out and put up with lower league footy for one season.

If they do go down to division 4 then they can wave good bye to any of the top players, most of them are late 20's at least and there's no chance on earth that they'll be spending their last years at top top of their careers playing conferance football!

Good post. Agree with all of that.

There's also a history of Berlusconi doing anything to keep power and stay in power, going so far as to ammend the constitution. Milan being scandalously relegated with him as president will be a massive embarrassment and i'm sure he'll use all the influence he has to prevent it.

Berlusconi is no longer running Italy PLC - he's out of luck on this one, and probably hoping no-one's looking too closely at any possible role he may have had in it all.

From all I have read - Juve will receive just as harsher punishment as Fiorentina did - that will be down to Serie D I believe.

All, there top players will surely have clauses saying they can leave for token figures should they be relegated - surely that would never happen.

Also, Capello ain't going to stay there - where will he end up - Real? Arsenal? ManUre?

could be a very interesting side story to the World Cup me thinks!!! :(

Would have loved Capello to be England manager myself; he's always spoken about wanting to come over here, and has a great record in both Italy and Spain.

Got f*ck all to do with UEFA. It is an internal matter and will be dealt with by the Italian FA who have shown in the past that they are not afraid to relegate teams where necessary. It remains to be seen if they will have the bottle to relegate one or more of the big boys though...

Yep, Milan were relegated before for match fixing.

As has been pointed out several times, AC Milan and Lazio were relegated in 1980 following a match fixing scandal. Fiorentina were relegated more recently due to financial irregularites. There is a history in Italy of punishing these things harshly, no matter how big the club.

Yes but Juve are the most corrupt team in the world... they get away with everything. Even with the evidence that they apparently have against them I wouldn't be suprised to see them playing in europe next season... I hopw they get relegated though. I hate that kinda crap
