i think the selection was arguably wrong in that while you ostensibly had three forwards, they were all happier supplementing midfield against a deep aggressive defence. we threw loads of jabs.
-
we lack a great player probably. a great player might trigger something in the way we and everyone else thinks about us. as well as just be good on the pitch obviously. but the inconsistency is also something else. dependency on the idea we have to be perfect. maybe once in a while we'll start brilliantly or happen upon the best player or spend more than anyone else in the window. but no one who actually competes consistently is that fragile.
-
08/09 and 13/14 are just as easily seen as further examples of our inconsistency. suarez and torres were here in seasons when we did very little around those times, as was gerrard. both seasons we started OK in terms of results that got us momentum in terms of belief and an approach we were increasingly confident with. so of course by the end we were bringing same intensity to every game. it's not only about one or two much better players. even if you could guarantee that. which you can't.
-
we need to be more consistent, fairly obviously. and possibly stating that is of even less value than the calls to get rid or spend money after every bad result. it's burnley and watford and whoever, but not every week, and often after or before a big win. fairly confident in saying there's a problem in approach as much as anything else.

question over the consistency of most of them. bit mad the response to one poor performance from sturridge also, given he's one of the few who tends to do it more often than not. fit, anyway. maybe that is a game where it's all about just needing a better player here and there to rescue you, but i dunno, problem seems to be as much and maybe more easily solved by getting to bottom of a recurring collective problem like that consistency, the selections, the attitude or understanding in certain situations, whatever.

doesn't matter what you have going forward if you keep conceding soft goals early in games, intermittently you're going to be frustrated by teams that use the advantage you have given them.
-
i don't think he once mentioned replacements. what's clear is that whatever gets said or done, we all still manage to take our own versions of the truth out of it.

blaming the midfield, obvs.

ojo's could be a stress injury rather than a bang?

oh f***, he's run coutinho over.
-
he defends/contributes better high up the pitch than he does in his own third. this is both the reason he's kept getting picked and likely while he'll have to sit out for a while. it's also the reason milner will replace him. and not a new left back.
-
tiresome the way you need everything explaining for you. suspect the reason you haven't actually quoted a post is that no one's defending him on that basis. if you want to be adversarial about it we can be. i'm just pointing out when and how he makes his mistakes, and what i think might be in the manager's thinking. this isn't even complicated. you don't have to be garth crooks to know that the sides that want and are successful at using forward thinking full backs tend to dominate midfield. if that's what the manager wants, i suspect that's the area of the pitch he'll throw money at.

they do have a german international and their captain playing in two of the positions he might have filled. strobl maybe the surprise to get in ahead of him. but much more defensive player away from home. -

not as short of centre mids as everyone was claiming then. bad news that they're winning 0-1 though. better news that kramer and strobl are playing well apparently. -
azpilicueta's a right back. he had to go there because they can't find a left back... since cole at least, player everyone said couldn't defend early part of his career.

think he's most liable to meltdown when we struggle in midfield, one way or another. not to excuse him, you want greater security in those situations, but it may play a part in the way the manager views it. apart from that he played too many games, regardless of form. pochettino, who launches his full backs in a similar way, rotated that position more than any other last season.
-
he does my head in at times. as do others. he needs to improve in a number of areas. i'm just not in that position of seeing almost nothing good, and everything bad. he's had games at a high level defensively, and shown he can contribute going forward. manager wants to continue working with him for time being. i can make sense of that without resort to conspiracy or hysteria. given everything he says, and the way he wants his teams to play. might prove a bad decision. could also be one of those managers occasionally and justifiably make against the weight of fan opinion. particularly in a position where we're more commonly seeing this happen; players converted and/or developing the traditional consistencies second.

all 4 peaches. agree game situation a factor in consideration of these things, but in that sense coutinho's strike elevated. mane's also obviously brilliant. the other two collective rather than individual brilliance.

neighbouring cells?

that all you got?

why would he have a blind spot? the manager gives enough clues to how he's thinking in my view. moreno cracking is just a symptom of the rest of the team not doing what it's supposed to. losing shape, passive, lacking commitment. he referenced these things yesterday and at other times previously. i don't think he sees the solution to that problem as a left back who can compensate better for the failures of the whole. it may be an anathema to some, it may be wrong, but it's a view of the game that exists. and at a high level. at least, it's better to engage with the notion that klopp is making decisions from a sensible football, benefit of his team/liverpool basis, then he just can't see what every armchair expert in the land can.

presumably he's not our only Spanish scout, but in terms of knowing people he might have some decent ins. think he was popular at madrid and good with the language.
