  1. think that's fair. might have to join you on that bandwagon Owen1978
  2. think the closest we came to cracking it, although in a slightly different way, was when anelka, heskey and owen played in a three the year we finished second. looked awesome for a while that.
  3. i agree about the movement. it's been a problem for a long while. we've rarely attacked with the fluidity and one touch passing of the best teams in recent years. my answer would be to concentrate on getting ourselves some wide players for the time being and see how the current crop of strikers do then. if no improvement, then think about moving them on.
  4. although he never played as a lone striker, that could just as easily be said for michael owen.
  5. wouldn't you say that was far more to do with lack of chances created then hundreds of glaring misses though wayne? i'd like to see a team that carves out chances all over the place and doesn't neccessarily rely on one goal scorer to win us games, although that would be nice too.
  6. because they are all the same kind of player? easy to throw around a term with a negative connotation like "target man" to suit an argument. but moro, crouch, cisse, pongolle, kewell and garcia all offer something completely different. less about long balls to a big man then having a player with the touch and presence to bring his team mates into play.
  7. i accept it's probably happening, just reserve the right to say exactly why it shouldn't.
  8. and he never had the crying software installed when he was a baby robot.
  9. only problem is we got married to someone else in the meantime.
  10. lucky i was responding to his post then and not whatever else was floating through your head at the time
  11. we're just going round and round now. i'm under no illusions. read my other posts on this. not really a case of happy or unhappy. i'd be less concerned if kuyt came because i can clearly see that he is a player benitez has identified over many months, and fits obviously and flexibly into several systems he uses. i would still be concerned that we were concentrating funds in an area that wasn't a priority, and would prefer if there are no better options for us to keep our money until we can secure the top class and probably pricey centre back and right winger we need, preferably in january.
  12. Knox metioned expectation amongst supporters going up didn't he? would have thought 5,000,000 posts on a lfc website was a pretty good guide. as for the papers, they've had us favourites for several weeks, even if benitez's reticence has understandbly had them a little confused.
  13. we didn't open negotaitions michael owen did. that's the only basis on which he's arriving. in that sense - if he holds firm - we can test their resolve as much as they test ours. how could the expectation on this be any higher? we've had over a hundred pages of threads on the issue. he's been asked about it in every press conference for a month. if we spend anything like £11 million i'll be disappointed. we've had an offer of £6.5 million turned down for a centre back today. pool resources and ensure we get those targets first and foremost.
  14. easier to reduce it to that, then actually look at what's going on Lee? i appreciate that you and many more like you are desperate for owen to sign for us. i'm unconvinced it's the best signing for the club to make at this particular time and if it wasn't happening i see absolutely no evidence to suggest another player of his type would be bought in. the manager's indifference speaks volumes too. dress it up however you want, but he's happy to talk about other targets, positions etc. easy for him to go around saying yes i want owen to those it might concern, but the fact that he's desperately trying to offload other strikers at the same time says it all.
  15. rafa benitez wanted peter crouch. identified the player went out and spent £7million on him when most rated him at half that price. graeme souness wants michael owen. michael owen is bending over backwards to make a move to liverpool happen. at what particular stage of this episode has rafa benitez enquired about owen's availability? if he were happy to sit on real's bench and take top dollar or visa versa, would we be sniffing around trying to buy the player? he can see the benefits of michael owen signing for the club, but only on his terms; low wage, low fee and perhaps with cisse farmed out as well. hardly the actions of a man that bothered by the signing either way. in that context want seems a little strong.
  16. he did end up going for nearly £30 million though. if this is anything like a bidding war it's game over. or at least it should be.
  17. fernando morientes and djibril cisse.
  18. what he's worth to us. this transfer has been instigated by him wanting to come home first and foremost. second, we have nigh on £30 million worth of striking talent already. that's before we even get into the more subtle controversies.
  19. it'd be insane to pay anything like that.
  20. good post.
  21. perhaps, although even that's debatable. but some of the fawning over michael owen on here would put a teenage girl to shame...
