  1. how the bloody hell do NewsNow let sportsnetwork publish stories on there? A couple of other classics from their European Football Section: "Newcastle step up striker hunt By Anal Oliver - July 31 2006 Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder has finally found the the replacement for retired Geordie hero Alan Shearer. After months of speculation and rumours Newcastle doubled their efforts to bring in a new striker. Earlier this week local papers refuted claims of Dean Ashton coming to the Toon. And rumours went on with names such as Miroslav Klose and Dirk Kuyt being linked to the North-East outfit. We can reveal today that none of these players will come. However after I've talked to Freddy yesterday night I can reveal Newcastle's top target. Belgium hotshot Barry Van Gina tops Roeder's list and as far I know we're are ready to make an offer. More on this as I get it." ---- Swiss star Lulu to make up with boyfriend By B. Jansen - July 10 2006 Sister Lulu, also known as General Pischmark, will take serious actions regarding his relationship with Willy Goatcheese. The Swiss star will try to make up with Willy after he cheated on him recently. Lulu got caught on camera while cheating on Willy. The pictures went all over Swiss and were the talk of the day for half an hour. It now appears that Lulu will try to make up with Willy. More news on it as we get. ---- Dutch survey: Spurs a small club By Brenzalot - July 27 2006 According to a big survey in Holland and Belgium, North-London outfit, Totenham Hotspur are a small club. Thousands of people were asked to fill in the survey, all across the lowlands. Many people didn't even know the name Tottenham Hotspur, the club who are well known for being snubbed by a series of players. 5% of the questioned people didn't know the London based club, 77% think Spurs are an average Premiership side, 8% of the people say the club are Englands 6th club after England big guns Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle United. And finally 10% think Spurs are an Icehockey team. The outcome of the survey isn't very surprising but confirms Tottenham's status as a small club.
  2. Ok we'll pretend that in cosy little Big Wayne's World that everyone is happy that Gerrard is publicising his story in the NotW and he's received no criticism from those extremely disappointed that he's seen to be associating himself with the sister paper of The Sun such that there's big ads of him in The Sun advertising his serialisation in the NotW.
  3. Get a grip of yourself lad. Where have I EVER described myself as part if the "hardcore" support? If you'd read this thread properly you'd have seen I have no problem with Gerrard doing it personally BUT I thought it was incredibly naive given the grey area that surrounds the NotW and its classification as the Sunday Sun by many on Merseyside in particular, given the synergistic relationship between the two newspapers. What I was railing against, as you'd have noticed if you'd absorbed anything that was posted, were the pathetic excuses along the lines of "he had no control", "it was all his agent's work", "he had no choice". Why not just admit it's gone in the NotW because it pays the most money which was the whole point of what both Gerrard and his agent were trying to achieve by writing a book and serialising it? Next time try reading the thread before jumping in to overreact. Btw I'll throw in a few f****** t*** s**** b****** to display some passion.

    Pennant

He's our first right winger since Callaghan.
  5. I know, but as I explained earlier there's many among the hardcore support who consider the Sun and the NotW to be exactly the same beast and will be disgusted by this. The reaction has already been poor. I personally don't have a problem with it, just think it's extremely naive on both his and his agent's part. What I do have a problem with is people claiming there's nothing he could have done about it as if a gun was held to his head when he signed the contract with the publisher or when he posed for the NotW photographers or did the radio ads.
  6. Of course he's getting the f***ing money - as the advance!!! He could have taken a smaller advance in exchange for inserting a no serialisation in The Sun or the NotW. It was up to him and his agent. As it is he's all over the back of the NotW advertising the serialisation and has done ads to publicise it. Don't make out that he's an innocent party who was forced into doing all of this.
  7. Urban myth that - players heard nothing in the dressing room.
  8. Where were you? It was one of the things people used to have a pop at Owen all the time. I think you're being extremely generous to the lad. He doesn't need the money from the book deal so could have requested no serialisation in The Sun or the NOTW and still been picked up by many a publisher. Him and his agent clearly chose not to.
  9. Depends on the contract. You can 100% guarantee that his contract states that the book won't be serialised in The Sun under any circumstances. The NotW has always been a contentious issue with many of the hardcore support considering it to be the same newspaper. Think it's ill-advised to have any connection with the NotW.
  10. From a Red in Cyprus on RAWK about 30 minutes back: "While the Cyprus Football Federation ok'd the game to be played in Cyprus (after Maccabi's request) but the Cyprus Police have said that they cannot police the game so it won't be played here. It's all over the sport news and radios in Cyprus."
  11. Might be worth pointing out that Paddy Power have just signed up as our preferred betting partner and are known for publicity stunts.
  12. The Post has been a disgrace over our new stadium in comparison with the Echo.
  13. Yep it was in the last huge Kuyt thread (page 44 ): "I was impressed by Kuyt in the World Cup strangely enough. You could see what he'd bring to Liverpool in so many ways - his work rate and hunger are exactly what we need. We saw glimpses of a fantastic touch. And yes, maybe he had a slight over eagerness to impress in a Dutch side that disappointed massively post the the Serbia and Montenegro game. He reminded me of a Keegan."
  14. more likely to have meant that with the Cisse money (pre-broken leg), the Pennant money plus whatever we have left now towards the purchase of Kuyt we could have bought Kuyt plus Alves.
  15. The deal is for next summer if they decide to go ahead. Not November, not as soon as his leg heals, not January.
  16. And on this £10m for Kuyt, the Dutch press continually reports the figure as 20m euros, which is a substantial difference.
  17. They don't, even though their new deal starts this summer and ours was signed three years ago.
  18. Wasn't most of that associated with paying off your mate GH and his staff combined with providing Benitez with a larger than usual transfer fund? It's the same deal which had 3-4 years left and is worth more than Arsenal or Chelsea get. No we don't. That comes in next season. This is hilarious - weren't you at one stage complaining that we should have waited until after the CL Final to maximise income? We've got one year left on the deal and then we're in a position to negotiate a new deal in conjunction with a ground naming rights deal for the new stadium. £7m. And let's wait for the announcement, eh?
  19. Doesn't it suggest we've already bought 5 out opf the 6 players we needed this summer whereas as Newcastle are still scrabbling around looking to make their second purchase?
  20. Did you watch the second game?
  21. Nah don't worry I wasn't online - I'll delete the lot. Follow up: they were all bloody Norwegians.
  22. Good news: unlike in October 2001 there is no longer a requirement for us to jump through hoops and apply for a visa three weeks in advance. There is no longer a requirement for any EU citizen to have a visa if you're visiting for less than 90 days.
  23. I wouldn't - he still has the look of having "big bones" to me. And as well as he played against us and in one other FA Cup tie (Man City was it?) he didn't pull up many trees at Upton Park.
  24. We don't know if we'll get anything for him. And the balance sheet isn't run as you suggest on summer snapshots, it's run over 3-4 years so we're still a Cisse-sized chunk of money short.
  25. Aren't we a bit f***ed still because Cisse broke his leg removing £8m from the transfer budget? You can't just forget that as many seem to have.
