To be honest Dave I think you overegg the pudding. Kennedy, Walsh, Johnston weren't particularly big signings. Dalglish cost less than the fee we got for Keegan so like for like. Similarly Barnes, Beardsley and Houghton were paid for by selling Rush for 3m - we could perform a similar exercise now by selling Gerrard. Resigning Rush cost us financially in the late 80s as did signing Collymore in the mid 90s (his transfer fee alone was 60% of our turnover - we were so desperate for cash Peter Robinson was hawking us around the world for frinedlies during the season).

As it's a book written by a fan and not a professional journalist with contacts behind the scenes it's not a surprise there's less of what you describe. Where it wins out over those books is in giving a fans viewpoint of the season and has some very good analysis of where we were going under Houllier and where we're heading under Benitez. Also slays a few sacred cows such as the hypocrisy and inconsistency of various media pundits. Think the books as a whole sit well together.
