Dont know if this is common consencus (sp?) but I always thought Litmanen was under rated and woefully under used. A great player I thought. -
Messi hasnt begun to show it over an extended period of time yet, largely not his fault but the fact remains.

I dont see football in these terms at all. Each game is a blank canvas, with no history behind it. Its 11 v 11, on a grass field. PLayers that carry baggage into a game based on what has gone before is simply not strong enough psychologically. Thats my opinon. Sometimes your the better team and lose, sometimes the reverse.

But yet wholly out of our control. Thats where the element of fortune comes in. You're right about making luck though - look at the number of deflected long range shots that the other 2 get - they're goals that we simply wouldnt score as we dont take those pot shots nearly enough.

I think Luck is well overplayed in Football anyway. Looking at 2005, there was nothing that happened in that final that you could call 'lucky'. Plucky maybe. I think you were lucky to get past us this year. I dont think you were unlucky to lose to Chelsea - you were beaten fair and square, and ultimately shot yourselves in the foot at the end of the 1st leg - thats poor play not bad luck. In short, I think that luck cannot be blamed for the outcome of a season - I think this is where our man lost a lot of credibility following our demise.

I hope that made sense to a Liverpool fan, bacause for an outsider, I'm slightly confused.

Lady Luck's company should be enjoyed while she is dancing with you. She should never be relied upon however, as she is notoriously fickle. It would appear that she enjoys to spend the majority of her time whoring herself on the kerbs of Manchester and West London however.

I think he gets some slack cut because of his philosophy of developing players rather than shelling out on established world stars, and the fact that he has maintained top 4 status despite 6 or 7 teams around him outspending him. I also think the style of football had bought him some time, but this time ran out on him this year. Like I said elsewhere in this forum, I as a fan would give him the benefit of the doubt until this time next year, particularly because there has been tangible progress this year from last. However, if next year doesnt bring us closer to silverware, then it would be unnatural not to ask questions. Especially with the £1500 cheque that left my bank account this week!

Its unfortunate really that he behaves like such a t***, because he is simply incredible. The fact that he seems indestructable should see him eclipse Messi over the next few years, although I think Messi is slightly the better technical player.

I'm not sure Flamini is technical enough to be a success in Serie A - he's made for the Premiership imo. Hleb on the other hand would be perfectly suited for Italy - could go on to be a real star there. Both would be big losses for Arsenal, but Flamini more so. I just dont see where another player like that exists that you could go out and get. Knowing us, theres probably a 15 year old in Mozambique who is on the boss' radar.

Agreed 100%. The Carling Cup policy of playing fringe players has yielded 1 final and 3 semi finals (I think!) in the past few years - the benefits to young players has been very evident, and therefore should not have attracted too much criticism the first time it went wrong. He got slaughtered, and rightly so after the disgraceful show at Old Trafford, and this match has been rammed down his throat as the reason for all subsequent failings, which is vastly overstated. After our trophies disappeared, he has been absolutely shoed from all angles, I agree that he has taken more flak than Rafa Benitez.
-
I'm sorry but thats absolute rubbish. Wenger is popular because of his apprachability and willingness to talk openly about issues, however, because of the lack of englishness in his team, the knives always go in quicksmart when the chips are down. Wenger got slammed after the CL tie with you, and even more so after we lost at Chelsea. With some justification it has to be said.

Who leaked the Barry story to the press?
Gooner Spy replied to Hodgson for Chelsea's topic in Liverpool FC
any of the above is better than a quick deal conducted with only one party involved. At the end of the day, transfer dealings in general appear to be a murky world, where nobody seems to play by the rules. Whether its clubs publicly declaring an interest in a contracted player (Madrid, Barca specialities), meeting contracted players in hotels (Cole/Mourinho), taking a player out for ice cream the day before a massive CL match (Inter), it seems that the day where one chairman faxes an offer, receiving chairman decides to accept/decline etc atre a long way in the past. -

FWIW, assuming we're talking Centre Midfield for Barry, not in a million years would I swap him for Alonso. -

I doubt that the top men at a club do much more than vote yay or nay to releasing the funds. Anything like this would, I assume, be initiated by the manager. -

I guess the reality is that your season is now over - why not steal a march and get your shopping done before the queues build at the checkouts? Think most managers will be keen to buy before the Euros begin - players prices dont tend to decrease as a result of these tournaments. -

To be fair, I, and a number of mates I was chatting to today about this, only know anything about this because of O'Neill's rant, not anything Liverpool did. Always makes me laugh this carry on. Bigger club makes offer, other manager gets the hump, says that player will not be leaving, but you just know that if bigger club really want player, the deal will be done. -
*shudder* Perish the thought. He's where he deseves to be. Hoping Palace fail in the play offs, for that reason alone

Oh dont get me wrong, I can't stand the guy- I think that him and that other t*** Simon jordan are a match made in heaven! I was just a bit confused by his role in this - I didnt know about him bleating about your team selections.

Why would Neil Warnock have an opinion one way or the other? I know theres history, but this doesnt affect him, no?
