Dossena was surprising in that he never fitted (nice fourth goal twice though). Aquilani could have been a good player for us (And still could be - pretty unlikely, but hey). Keane was a joke signed by an idiot. My understanding was that Rafa was after Barry and he was disgusted when Keane was signed 'by the board' (Or other names that won't be mentioned). If we'd had proper money then we'd have gone for proper targets. Rafa rarely had the funds he needed to compete for the signatures he really wanted, so always had to go for second best, also rans and gambles.

Not really. He clearly wasn't 100% fit in those games that he did play in. You can't honestly be claiming that he's had no injury concerns for the past several years can you and that things in the past cannot have a bearing on todays player?
-
He looked injured and laboured in many of those games. Going back 2 years from today would be more interesting. 2010-11 he only made 21 appearances in the league and, of course, hasn't featured yet so far this season. You think that if we had the funds we'd have signed Dossena, Aquilani and (I'm guessing) Keane if we had £35-£40M in our pockets? Remarkable.

Thought it was all pretty silly myself. I would have been happier if he'd just said "b******s to this" and went somewhere else.

Because the amount of wages outgoing affect the clubs finances. If those wages outgoing are going on a player playing every week and doing well then I have no problem with that. If those wages are being wasted on a player not playing every week then that is a concern. When the wages are massive then that is a major concern. We have been making strong efforts to reduce the wage bill to make the club profitable and to try and bring in the right names. Another one that needs to be addressed is Danny Agger - great player - but, like Gerrard a perma-crock. If we are paying wages, we want to pay those wages to people earning them by playing every week and putting in a performance every week. Not too much to ask, I'm sure you'd agree.

I have, this is true. I disliked him even more when a few of my mates on separate occasions were disgusted the way he responded to their kids requests for autographs and the like. It hit an all-time low after that pathetic incident in Southport. But saying all that, he's our player and if he can get to his best then I can appreciate what he can offer to the club without having to like him. How many games in the past 2 years would you say he warranted the money that he earns every week?
-
That could well have been the case. No arguments there. Every new player is a risk, but we've ended up with a very good player that's been out of form for three years, injured pretty much that whole time and now looks a gamble as to whether he can find his old form. He's on a good whack and has a long term contract recently signed. He's 31 now, so it's going to expire when he's 35-36 I believe at £120,000 a week. For someone that might never play regularly again. We'll wait and see though, if he can recapture his form and be consistent then he might still be able to do it for the club. As I've said though, I'm amazed that everyone else seems to be just assuming that he'll come back and will be as good as he was 5 or so years ago. I would have thought so. Perhaps even a little more if they turned out to be excellent.

Who is to say that the replacements combined wouldn't have strengthened the squad and made that 2nd place finish a few years later a first place finish? It's all ifs and buts, but replacing any one player with three players needed over the park could well have benefited the club.

We'll see. If he manages to be fit all season when he returns and can put in top performances pretty much every game then that's fair enough. Can't see it myself. We haven't, in fact, seen it for about three years now. He's getting on. He's injury prone. We got offered bids from Chelsea twice. First one was about £32-35M, second one was £35-£40M. 2004 through 2006. And that's the thing, isn't it? £120,000 a week isn't worth 3 good performances a season. I'd rather we had a good to very good player available and on-form most of the time than a world-class player unavailable and out of form and fitness most of the time. If you have a massive squad and unlimited money then you can afford such luxury players. We haven't really got the squad or the money.
-
Get £40M. Spend £40M. It's not rocket science.
-
He can be great on his day. But is that worth the wages to the club for two or three world class performances a year? Is it worth the performances inbetween. I might be proven wrong, but I doubt that a week-in week-out top of his game, top of his fitness and top form is going to be a reality here. How long is his current contract at £120,000 a week? 4 years? 5 years?
-
He's finished. I'd rather concentrate on the future than the past. I'd prefer the club to move on forward - we never used to sit on our laurels or look at the past. We were a club that changed things when they needed changing and moving people on when they needed moving on. When we had that chance to get £40M and bring in 3 world class players for the money we should have taken it. I know that's a massively unpopular opinion, but what the hey. I think it was a massive mistake by the club at the time - borne out with the recurrances of the injuries that have kept him from his best for over three years now (Brilliant displays here and there excepted - like the Napoli game a while back)

He hasn't got any shame. Did you see that advert he did? -
Adam still looks a great signing to me. Once the team has settled down (Which will take, I think, a season) then he'll be assisting with gay abandon.

Two of the Manc goals offside yesterday. The league isn't fixed though. -
We could have bought a caravan for that money with a nice little fridge and a flat screen TV.
-
What attributes do you believe he has?

Lucas Enrique Coates (For a difficult debut)

I thought he was an alehouse footballer before we signed him. One day I hope to change that view.

I said that if they hadn't been so wasteful then it could have been a cricket score (See above)

We were great today. And by great, I mean not very good. Referee had a clear agenda right from the off. Clearly instructed by his boss Mike Riley to make Kenny pay for what he said the other day. As has been said - if all those yellows were yellows then no game would ever finish with all the men on the pitch. Spurs fouls and niggles were being dealt with correctly (Ie no yellow card) but with our fouls he couldn't wait. I'm astonished that he didn't send another couple of our players off. You can argue that he didn't show 'common sense' but that's not really touching it. It was clearly skewed throughout. Before the sending off, although Spurs passed the ball around and made space they didn't really penetrate that much - if they hadn't been so wasteful we could have been looking at a cricket score. The commentator on Sky was even more annoying than usual - crowing about Spurs 'having so much possession' as if he thought a team with 9 men wouldn't be affected by it. It was astonishing. I'm very pleased by Kennys response to the questions about the referee. Best to say nothing.

It's true though. We are unlikely to play the same way as we do now. He will change it certainly. We can hope that it will be for the better and hope that it isn't disrupted and it doesn't turn games into being all about him. I'm loving the way Kenny has us playing at the moment, I'm loving that no one is standing out, apart from the team. The players playing well look like cogs in a machine that it firing in tandem. Everyone is talking to everyone. Everyone is moving for everyone. Everyone is playing for everyone. Great to see. Gerrard is a great player when he's fit, on form and on his day but he rarely looks like he fits into any team - he can when at his imperious best stand apart and far beyond his teammates, but you have concerns that the level of industry and fitness required for this may be beyond him. He is certain to come back - someone will lose their place. Some of the understanding built may be lost. Let's hope that he provides that extra spark, that the strength and fitness is on a level to make a consistent enhanced Liverpool a reality.
