I think Villa was very keen on a move to Chelsea previously and they are strong favourites to get him I'd say with Man U a close second. Not sure we could afford him at the moment unless we splashed pretty much all our transfer budget on him, which is somewhat unlikely given other areas of weakness that need addressing. As for Spurs even if he wanted to go there, I doubt they could afford him at £25M+ especially as, apparently*, Levy has lost around £400M due to some of his major US investments crashing and burning in a big way of late! *according to a Spurs fan at work!

My disapointment has been the lack of truly top class signings - Torres apart - we have generally spent bits and pieces on bits and pieces players. whilst we've not had a huge amount of money to spend I think we could have fared better with a slightly smaller squad and spent the money on higher quality (usw. individually higher cost) players. The irony is that Rafa may well have bought some excellent prospects for the future but might not be around to see them flourish.

When Rafa has made a mistake he sells on quickly and generally not for a significant loss (ocasionally for a profit). Same cannot be said for some of the players he inherited however - figures for Cisse and Diouf still make me shudder.

Even factoring in the money spent recently on Mascherano and the amount received for Sissoko - the net spend is pretty decent really esp when nearly a third of it went on Torres. It is entirely possible that one/some of the younger players he has bought could turn out to excellent buys in the way that Carson now looks a shrewd bit of business - if we sell him or keep him as back-up.

That Independent piece is woeful on so many levels. For starters - there is no way Mourinho will come to Liverpool as he's a shoe-in for the Barca job. I think Barca will know that too and that could mean it limits the price tag. Diarra took a while to settle in at Real but on his day is a very good player - more a Sissoko/Mascherano type defensive midfielder than an Alonso type one.
