When he came off he was given an ice pack to stick up his shirt against his ribs. He's just coming back from months off and, yes, he was awful first half but he improved greatly and put in a pretty good second half. There's some utter b*llocks in this thread from knee jerking, fickle idiots.

He is small. It surprised me when the team came out as I'd never really noticed it on the telly. He's got a good leap on him though.

Gerrard Hyppia Pennant I don't really understand all these votes for Mascherano. He had a reasonable debut in about the easiest game he will ever play at Anfield but the first 30 minutes of the game just passed him by and he looked a little lost. A couple of times he was muscled off the ball and he was wasteful a few times. He came into it towards more the end of the half and put in a couple of good tackles. Second half he was better and got into the game more and was involved, with a nice pass, in the fourth goal. Not a bad performance at all after his troubled time at West Ham and playing no football for so long but not one of the top three performances. I was looking forward to seeing him play since he was first linked with us and, sitting pretty much on halfway, I was in a great position to get a good look at his performance and I thought it was pretty encouraging but I'm expecting much more to come from a player who with undoubted class.
