To me your signature is contradicted by what you're saying here. AA was much improved as he got a string of games in the last quarter of the season and was flying into tackles aswell - something Meireles, for instance, hasn't a habit doing. AA was first injured, and then not played properly for a long period of time. I think the last ten or so games he had for Liverpool - as well as the season he's had in a failling Juve team - is a truer picture of his ability as a footballer than "the season he had here".

Is there anything to contemplate here? Any reason to believe this person you met? Alonso I would have back in a heartbeat. Not sure why he'd want to come though. Don't know how it would work for Torres coming back. To be noted: I don't hate for making a that stupid mistake. He wanted to go and we got good money. Fair enough.

All of this. And: would we have needed him this season? Simple really. He's a class player and could yet flourish here. He won't necessarily of course, but I really think we would have done better with him this season.

Chelsea needs a thorough overhaul, no-one knows when Tottenham reach their peak, no-one knows how long it will take to make City a team with a championship winning mentality and routine and no-one knows if Wenger can make Arsenal a winning side again. As for us: no-one knows how far Kenny and these new owners can take us. We have to remember that we are still honeymooning with Kenny (and his management team).

One has to consider one thing with Caroll though: big feckers like always do much better in European games than against English defenders, who have had a good share of practice in defending against these brickhouse centre forwards. Check out the stats for Crouch and compare his European form to his form in the PL. Same reason why Zlatan never performs against English oppo. Whereas he can go on banging them in in Italy and Spain. So, although Carroll changed the balance of the game yesterday, I don't think that he'll be a relevation in the league quite yet. He needs to get absolutely match fit and bedded in the team before he'll start producing. IMO. Hope I'm wrong of course.
