    Steve Heighway

The players such as Roque, Antwi, Hobbs, Anderson etc who were bought in have never been at the academy, they went straight into the reserve squad. The youth cup was a collaboration between those young enough to play from the reserves and the academy players.
  3. Thanks for that.

That'll be it imo, you can see the progression from the earlier trade-fair designs. I like the look of it.

    Darren Bent

    Different sort of player though.

I've seen the logo with the football, just asking whether it was ever actually on the badge. A problem with using it is that you lose the space at the bottom left in order to fit in a solitary eternal flame as lazyboy has done. Ah thanks.

    NEWS ARTICLE

Some games where Xabi and Gerrard started together in the centre without a defensive mid: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4778418.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/3647100.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/4537460.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/4726994.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/4473084.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...rem/4088021.stm (off the top of my head naturally)

All the badges I've found on the internet in the past ten minutes are just the standard liverbird. Are you sure the football was ever included? And if so when? Might be another distinguishing feature which could help with the copyright. Incidentally, if a campaign ever started to have the badge changed back it would have to be created in advance so that people knew what they were signing up to. And it'd also be helpful if someone who knew about copyright could authenticate it as distinctive enough. Does anyone have a friend of a friend?

    Alves

Perhaps Rafa valued Alves at £7m, and has been willing to stretch to the latest bids but no higher. He has a transfer fund to spend how he chooses, and if Alves is that important he will sacrifice money earmarked to be spent elsewhere.

    New kit

That's the issue isn't it, we wouldn't be able to legally protect merchandise because we can't copyright the liverbird (and rightly so). Would've thought the eternal flame and liverbird combination (as on lazyboys design) would be sufficient, and it's not obvious whether that's been explored by the club. Personally I'd rather go back to the old crest regardless.
  11. Yeah, being verbally abused (or however you want to phrase it) is a really rare occurence. Only happens in football, dontchaknow. Someone is an idiot to respond to it in everyday life, but to do it 10 minutes into extra time in the world cup final, in your last ever professional game is beyond belief.
  12. Funny how people we are linked with become the best in their position. Especially after they've never been mentioned before.
  13. Worth noting he's not a columnist, it's a blogging site on the Guardian site. I didn't realise.
  14. http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,1130119,00.html That's interesting, but the rest of the article really is awful. The suggestion that there are so many white managers because of racism is the most laughable. Couldn't be that football in European (and predominantly white) countries has had huge amounts of investment and greatly more developed leagues over the last fifty years (there being a delayed reaction to increases in funding due to the age of managers), resulting in large numbers of able managers.
  15. Is that a Premiership/League or LFC record?

    Kewell

It seemed pretty obvious to me that he wasn't going to be able to go straight back into training after the World Cup, given his groin problems etc. This will guarantee a layoff, which I think will allow him to recover from the rest of his wear and tear. It's not a coincidence imo he performed so well last year after the hernia. And six weeks isn't so long, aren't all the World Cup players going on three week holidays now? Hopefully having Gonzalez in the team will allow us to use Harry sparingly short term (allowing him to recover fully), or possibly longer (if this injury plague is irreversible).
  17. This applies to Gerrard as much if not more than any other player imo.

    From TLW

The irony is that Simao has his own reputation as a wide boy. He was mysteriously barely played after moving to Barcelona, and there are all sorts of rumours flying around about his behaviour. He's now captain and star of his team, and is playing well. He has never performed in a major league, and is exactly the sort of player who might struggle to adapt. On the other hand Pennant has kept his head down and pulled out a great season in this league, during the tenure of a reportedly absolutely shambolic Steve Bruce, and without giving himself airs. He also actually wants to play for us enough that he's willing to wait as we fail in buying our primary target (Simao has never expressed any desire), and will cost less than half, allowing us to spend the money on another top class player (a £7m surplus).

    Alves

Ah right, anyone know how he fared?
  22. eth

    Alves

I think Alves will be used at RB and RW, depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the other team. Cally77 is right, imo, that Finnan doesn't offer enough against weaker teams going forward, and Alves may well be used to overlap Gerrard to pin these teams back. In terms of how he adapts to playing as a winger, we'll have to see. The limited videos I've seen suggest he wouldn't struggle with the switch, and I think that's where he'll be used primarily. By the way, 12 -> 14m Euros is 8.2 -> 9.5m pounds. And a third (?) of that will be extras.
  23. Came across this on that blog: and a search brings up this: odd
  24. From what I saw the German defence in general was fine, didn't see any problem at set pieces as per the zonal marking system. The problem was the right back was about 5-10ft behind the other players for both the Costa Rican goals. According to Sky the Costa Ricans had one shot off target and one blocked apart from the two goals, and nothing else.
