  1. I agree it's more than that. I have read about our training involving a lot of work on 'pattern of plays'. I think it is this work that helps it become a natural instinct rather than a communicated one. Whereas you can play together for years and learn what the others are going to do, by recreating these matchday scenarios day in day out in training it because natural in a lot shorter space of time. As such, I'm pretty sure our defenders can second guess what the others are going to do a lot of the time. Obviosuly there is still the need for communciation, but you also need to be in the right position to start with to get any benefit. It's no good hearing the shout to step up if you're 5 yards behind play, in much the same way as it's no good for you to make the shout if you're not sure where your colleagues are. Huge credit must go to Pako as we are so well organised, but I think it's now got to the stage where we do not need the same amount of communication as we did in the early stages of Rafa's reign.
  2. When you play regularly enough you soon 'know' when to step up and when the drop deep.

  10. I've scored LOADS of own goals (though most of them would have been given the striker, unless it was Crouch of course, we can't have him scoring). Amongst them are: 2 where the ball was played back to the keeper, I was shepherding in front of the striker so he couldn't close him down, and our keeper hit it against me (in my face both times) and it went in. 2 in one game... one where a shot was dragged wide but as I'd gone to try and block it it hit my ankle and deflected it in.... the other where the striker had gone round the keeper, and I tried to tackle him from behind and put the ball wide, but it trickled in off the post. I've had a couple of Paul Parker-esque ones where they've shot and it's spun off me when I try to block it and lobbed the keeper. The worst one was when the ball broke free in the box from a corner, and the winger I'd been battling with all game was going for it. It was about 80-20 in his favour, but I was facing my own goal, and him facing away from the goal, so I decided I was gonna smash him.... he s*** out of the tackle meaning I belted the ball in the top corner I can honestly say that with all my own goals (and I'm well into double figures) that is the only one that is really my fault... and that's cos the other fella was a s***house. I had no right to win that tackle. I have scored a whopping 2 goals in the right end... one direct from a corner, and the other a 30 yard lob, having spotted the keeper of his line!

  16. It was the draw for this round when it hit me. Usually I'd have slid my lunch break at work to coincide with it, I'd have my sheet of paper with all the combinations preplanned (having spent the night before checking each variation), and then ready to book as soon as we knew the venue and dates. I didn't even watch this draw.... Gutted. What a run we've had though... the memories will live with me forever!! :D
  17. As lucky escapes go, I'm the f***ing luckiest.... EVERY member of my Dad's family is a Blue. He was adopted, and his adopted Dad was a Red. We only got to know our 'real' family later in life, but what a lucky escape!!

  21. I know for a fact that we've been held as an example, and spoken about by another Premiership team who tried zonal marking!! My mate plays centre half for them, and I noticed it looked like they were using it so I text him and asked if they were... the reply was "Been working on it over the last few weeks, we're copying you!!"
