Alonso Reina Gerrard

Games like tonight highlight how important he is. His overlaps give Gerrard more space on the right, and generally help support our attacks, which Arbeloa didn't do as well tonight. Gerrard was often isolated when he was actually on the right, which would have occured less had Finnan played. We also missed his crossing and his confidence on the ball. The second half today reminded me of the second half of the game we lost 4-1 last season against Chelsea. We wouldn't have scored if we played them all day back then and it looked the same tonight. Against a side so well drilled, you need the players who can conjure up a bit of magic and score in the tight games. I was thinking how much we could with Garcia at Anfield.

How can people criticise Alonso? We completely dominated the middle of the pitch for pretty much the whole game, and Alonso had loads of the ball, I thought that along Gerrard, he was our best player. Zenden on the other hand is desperate. He can't pass, he can't control the ball, he can't beat a man, he wimps out of tackes, and as Pat warned us a long time ago, he can't cross the ball. He crosses the ball like I do on a Sunday, hope to get it off the ground and near the box. How is an attacker going to score from such a weak cross.

Have you forgotten about the same Mourinho that said that his side were cheated by the goal that never was? The same Mourinho that ssshhhed the crowd in Cardiff and had an argument with Carra on the sideline? The same absolute to$$er who makes out he doesn't care when he loses, but is as smug as you like when he wins? Or the same Mourinho who refused to shake Rafa's hand at the semi final last season? He'll avoid the mind games this time round as he's been burned too many times by a superior manager. While I am with most of us in being upset that Chelsea will play us instead of Valencia, make no mistake, Mourin-c**t knows he faces as big a test as there is against the tactical nous of Rafa. We'll do those cheating, classless, boring danish kings. Sissoko, Alonso and Gerrard are going to boss a midfield that is missing Essien.
