IMHO the two next important signings are someone to Chair this club and someone to manage the football team that is at its heart. Think about the great teams in British history and they are synonomous with the managers running the club... Shanks, Paisley, Stein, Busby, Clough, Ferguson. The latter may stick in our throats but there's one reason why United now play in a 77,000 stadium - success on the pitch because of the manager standing on the side of it. As we now know...he's still ensuring they are competitive even when up against owners who are bleeding the club dry - when was the last time they really signed anyone and how many people seriously say they will not compete this season... We need stability off the pitch and leadership of the football. If we get that right then both success on and off will work together... Chewie

Can I ask... What's to stop mill financial from arranging bridging finance for hicks to repay the bank subject to a legally binding agreement to sell to them for say £50 mil more. They're not getting the club from broughton et al so depends on how much they want it... Does it not or have I missed something !?!

Main thing is that you only get to sell the family silver once... Or twice... Or via a Texan court injunction to a hedge fund... what a shambles... My mind goes back to the clown when asked what changed his mind on gilette and he nodded the way of thx fat Texan and said 'This man'... shame on you

Dunno but I'd feel a lot more confident if I saw Didi come on

Finally... No babelin starting or bench line ups!! It just ain't gonna happen and he hasn't helped himself by mouthing off about needing a chance... perhaps he could have been a player, perhaps it's been coaching, perhaps he just doesn't have it... Whatever... He's on the way out but by the time we get rid we'll get a bag of jelly beans for the privilege of selling him...

Just waching lfctv showing the home game in 08/09 when brown scored the og and masch tenacity led to a babel winner. Dunno if it was just the highlights but we looked all over em... When I see that team with alonso and masch and albert providing genuine balance and class on the left it makes me weep...

I think it's totally disingenious to suggest that those who felt the time was up for Rafa felt then that it really didn't matter who would take over or that the decision to want Rafa out was not one that was based on football decisions... http://www.ynwa.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=148056&st=0&p=2548905entry2548905 is but one example of the dilemma many of us felt and continue to feel...the fear that under Rafa, for lots of reasons - tactically, motivationally, the poor use of the money that was available - we were on the slide but the even bigger fear that without Rafa under this shower things could get worse... roy's got a two year deal. Let's hope it doesn't get worse, we get sold and that either Roy comes up trumps or someone else is brought in to start the true rebuild...

of course we're not sold yet...but we have no idea what they have been up against in terms of working with owners who actually want to sell below a price in their minds that is warped out of all proportion. Against that any buyer right now paying G&H value would be absolutely mad. I know there are all sorts of reasons that make this different from buying a house but let's say you were in the market to buy a house. You know for a fact that at the height of the market it was bought for £100,000 a couple of years ago, and you know that the owners have added on a further £30,000 in unsecured high interest loans to help them meet with their mortgage repayments. They owe £130,000 and can't make the monthly repayments. You also know the market has gone south in terms of buyers and so the same house could probably be bought now for £90,000. The owners have it on the market for £150,000 but are one month away from the house being repossessed by the Bank.... what do you do! What you don't do is pay £150,000...you might be tempted to secure it now for around £100,000 if you want to guarantee a purchase...but the picture is pretty clear... what if a few months from now someone gets to buy us for £100 mil less than what they could now and that £100 mil goes into the new player transfer kitty... of course this is not the position we are in now...but a white knight to rescue G&H in August when their financial position is so weak...I choose to believe that Purslow, Ayres and Broughton are acting in the best interests of the club - even if only from a professional integrity perspective. Acting in the best interests of the club as Directors means not allowing our players to become collateral in even more risky loans. It also means working with RBS (UK based) with whom they no doubt have very good and longstanding contacts. If they shaft us I'll be very surprised...they stand to lose a lot in such a high profile case and I don't they will risk their professional reputations for the sake of the yanks or even for some financial incentive to themselves...they've too much to lose in the longer term
-
I think the three of them - Purslow, Ayres and Broughton - are doing their best tbh and in this current climate have positioned the club remarkably well in terms of sponsorship and so on. Of course we are being asset stripped because of G&H but that is not Purslow and Ayres fault.....the debt burden the yanks have imposed on this club might have crippled us but they've actually made us much leaner and profitable which from a selling perspective must make us more attractive. there are very few real liabilities in terms of players who would need to be got shot of if someone come in. We could add 3-4 real quality players to the existing lot and compete very well in the very short term. Of course CP is said to have been a liar and so on - but I think these guys say what they need to say in the public domain being far more privy to the behind the scenes facts than we are. In the current climate the truth about our position blurted out for all to see might actually hurt us more...and heck when what is said in public doesn't fit the forum folklore and mantra it does matter who says it...they get slammed on (see the reaction to Carra's views on the way the club had gone over the last few seasons...of course we know more than Carra on the dressing room harmony and the feeling amongst the players as to the way the footballing side of things was being handled...) Absolutely none of this excuses the position we are in...but my hope is that with the passing of time we will look back and say that the 3 of them held their nerve, kept us financially afloat, did what they had to, and managed to find a genuine proper buyer for Liverpool Football club, not acquiescing to Laurel and Hardy and even standing up to them in order to protect the club... in fact if they have managed to get themselves into a position in which they genuinely have equal voting rights to the only two shareholders to the point where they can vote them out of the club (in effect) then well done....and if RBS have played a part in creating this scenario then belated credit there too... The pressure needs to stay on...but I think these 3 guys are professionals who are good at what they do and will do what they are here to do well

The idea that these guys don't know (esp Carra) the 'sensitivities of Owen playing is simply laughable...the fact is they are big enough to get over it and so should we be. Michael Owen was between 1998 and 2004 a world renowned international footballer who played for Liverpool Football Club, scoring in major finals and playing a huge part in the rebuilding of the club that started under Ged and turned sour in the last 18 months. For a short period of time when we were absolutely pants Michael Owen was the name that kept the status of Liverpool Football Club in the international psyche...Did he make the wrong move in goin to Real Madrid - only with the benefit of hindsight can the answer to that be even remotely near a 'yes'... we flattered to deceive and languished under Ged, Owen was probably around 24 years of age and unlike most of his peers intelligent and professional enough to actually make a go of it abroad. Probably the biggest name in world football came looking to sign him who at that time had the likes of Zidane, Figo, Raul etc in their ranks. Did they underperform in the season that followed, yes. Did we, on a European stage, overperform unexpectedly in the year that followed - yes, unbelievably. Did Owen 'succeed' at Real Madrid - relatively, in the same way that Del Bosque was a success but was dumped. Owen had a great scoring record per time on the pitch but at a club of politics and Galacticos that didn't really matter. Siging for Newcastle was silly and everyone could see that. If we didn't want him and few other clubs were moving for him then why should he have said no to playing for United...was he really expected to bow and scrape and say..it's ok, if you don't want me then I promise, I really, really promise not to play for the likes of them.... sometimes I think we think these things are played out on the school playground. Carragher and Owen are close friends who grew up together and had the privilege of playing and winning an FA cup final together - Carra making the saves, Owen scoring the goals. They won in Europe together, challenged for the league together. they have a history, a friendship that transcends whatever pouts may be hurled their way from the stands...Carra will always be a legend for being 'the one club man'. Rightly so. Michael Owen will always be a legend for being a world class striker for us in the years he gave us...fans appreciate the player of the year but love the clubman of the year. On the night of the testimonial one deserves to be treated with respect and appreciation, the other revered and honoured. Neither have ever let us down, but one decided to pour his career into lifting us up. Well in Carra for valuing all of our history and those who contributed to his and our times and seeking to do so through raising funds for others. Anyone who wants to cry and bleat needs to take a long hard look at themselves and wise up.

Squad now is what Reina / Jones Johnson / Kelly Agger / Wilson Carra / Skrtl Aurelio / Konchesky Maxi / Cole Poulsen / Lucas Meireles / Gerrard Babel / Jovanavic Torres / Kuyt / N'Gog / Pacheco considering we think of Kuyt as a midfielder that means we will usually play 5 from 9 of the midfielders and Kuyt mentioned which means we need everyone on top of their game all season and for Torres to never tire, never get injured...tbh once I got past Skrtl's name I started to panic...I'm trying to convince myself its not too bad but only if the best players play all the time in the league.... what we really need is for Poulsen and Meireles to form an amazing partnership that allows us to play Gerrard, and 2 from Cole, Kuyt, Maxi, Babel on almost every occasion when we play...as well as telling Johnson and Aurelio / Konchesky to play like wing backs. If Poulsen is injured and Lucas acts as cover that's bad...but if Lucas comes in for Meireles we are stuffed..... oh (edit) and how the heck only Harry can know VDV is available for 8 mil and we don't I'll never know! 8 mil...that's 3 more than Konchesky if rumours etc are to be believed and 3 less than Meireles! I know we are on a budget but there are ways and means of extracting every last bit of value out of every last penny and pound and whatever anyone says about Harry he seems to deal better than most (cue onsluaght of failed Harry signings...but I wish we had Spurs squad fwiw)

don't give me that! If there is one thing rafa failed to do in his time here it was to not build a strikeforce. Yup he bought torres and changed gerrard but what other club relies so heavily on two players and all this failing to get the best out of crouch, keane, bellamy, morientes, fsp, baros ... His lack of being able to sign or develop players with an attacking instinct was the reason why we never pushed on. This window it is Roy's fault and even though I am supportive of him I think he has come up shorts... But this is not the time to say if rafa had been buying things would have been different. The last two times rafa spent 20 mil he failed to develop or deliver on the potential of the player signed... Keane, aquilani and Johnson cost us 57mil in outlay and were we 57 mil better off!?! This has not been a great window. We have signed below par players and unless our world class players step up and drag them up it could be a long cold winter. The real battle is in October....

Did roy really say that if someone offered 20 mil for Lucas he cud go but unlikely in this window as it's too late to get a replacement? If so it seems pretty odd to me... anything I've heard or read about roy is that he man manages well and builds a great team ethic... To be this blunt about a player whilst admitting he will prob stay would seem a little stupid given the amount of games Lucas might play... Unless of course he is deffo off or has asked to be allowed to leave ... anyone else confused by this? Please add input other than personal joy or despair cos it's Lucas... It's the principle of what has happened that seems off?

Not sure if that's one or two words but it prob sums it up...ta (ref to Gomez) flasher... V succinct and helpful:-)

Hey...been on hols since 12th aug and a few things occurred... 1. Life is so less stressful away from Internet and the F5 button on the transfer thread 2. Why wud any southern European / south American actually choose to live here and not Spain...! 3. Hardly one word in any overseas press about us and our plight... it may be the centre if our universe but we cud get forgotten about quite quickly... And obviously we ain't bought yet... tho surely if we are to be bought it'll not be by any consortium that says it plans to buy us?!? Any sensible buyer will have the whole thing done and dusted before we know who they are??? But that thought notwithstanding can someone fill me in on what's happened between 12-27 aug? I reckon one or two words shud prob suffice... ta

genuine question...what's the deal with being anti-Kirdi? What is it based on or is it a kind of forum stampede...someone suggests he's a front for Gilette and everything he does is viewed through this lens or is there objective reasons to be wary of him...? Honestly, please don't read any inference or suggestion in that in any direction - I genuinely want to know cos I have no clue in any of this...
