  1. I wasn't suggesting that a player who is versatile is great - but a player that is great is versatile, which is not the same thing. If a player has mastered the basics of tackling, passing and shooting, and has a good football brain, then he would be an asset to the team in any position. Rooney may well have the potential to be better than Rooney - but Cherno Samba had the potential to be better than Fowler.
  2. The question was in response to your saying 'Gerrard is no Rooney', implying that Rooney was better than Gerrard. It's not always easy to compare to players who play in different positions, but to take an extreme example, nobody would argue that you can't compare the relative merits of Ronaldinho and Boumsong - despite the fact that they play different roles, every man and and his dog will tell you that Ronaldinho Sh*ts on Boumsong from a great height. Although I agree that Rooney is a bloody good player, I would also say he has not yet achieved enough to be compared to Gerrard. And the reason that Gerrard is more versatile than Rooney is because he is a better player than him - being versatile is the mark of a great player.
  3. Wrong - no one is better than Xabi - except maybe Ronaldinho and Henry, and that too marginally. Just in case anyone is not to clear on this, here are the top five players in the world today: 1. Ronaldinho 2. Thierry Henry 3= Stevie Gerrard 3= Xabi 5. Kaka
  4. So you think Rooney is better than Gerrard? Rooney could only dream of putting in the performance that Stevie G did in the second half in Istanbul - not only driving the team forward to get us level, but then putting in a right back performance the like of which I have never seen from any defender, ever. If Gerrard hasn't been putting in the performances for England we know he's capable of, then that's because we have a dipstick of a manager who doesn't know how to use his most potent weapon. If SGE had any footballing nous, he would be building the team around Gerrard, not Rooney. When Gerrard is shackled in a holding role so that Lumplard can showcase his "talents", then you know that England haven't a chance whilst Mr 'I luv Beckham' Eriksson is in charge.
  5. Rooney??!? Who the f*** is Rooney? The best England Player is Steve Gerrard. Anybody who thinks otherwise has had their brain addled by the tabloid sh*te. I can't believe the amount of crap I've heard and read over the last couple of days. It's the tabloids that cause people to write this: 'Rooney is my favourite player and without him I think the England team is a joke. Completely devoid of any skill and imagination. He is our only world-class player and he is the kind of special player that can inspire an ordinary team to glory. Players like Gerrard, Lampard and Terry are NOT world class. These guys do not dominate the big games in the way that Rooney does' OK an extreme example of an Ingerlund supporter who actually knows nothing - remember Istanbul, pea-brain??! All of a sudden, Ingerlund have gone from being certainties to winning the WC to not having a snowball's chance in hell. As one hack put it, 'Trinidad won't even need Tobago to beat England now'. Let's look at the stats for this season: Wayne Rooney (forward): 48 Games, 19 goals, 11 yellows and 1 red. Steve Gerrard (midfielder) : 51 games, 21 goals, 4 yellows and 1 red. I can't believe on a Liverpool board we are having a w***fest over Rooney when we have an England player who is one of the top three players in the world. Sheesh!!

  7. Surely he'll get sanctioned for this? Says Ukraine boss Oleg Blokhin in World Soccer: "The more Ukranians who play in the national league, the more examples for the young generation. "Let them learn from a Shevchenko or a Blokhin and not from some Zumba-Bumba whom they took off a tree, gave him two bananas and now he plays in the Ukrainian league."

    Reserves

I see that Rossi is top of the goalscoring charts with almost the double the number of goals of the next guy... Also saw a report in the Metro this morning saying that Rossi is not happy stuck in the reserves... Few times I've seen this guy, I've been well impressed. Unfortunately, I can't see Ferguson letting him come to us, which would be a shame, as I think he could do a great job for us as 3rd/4th striker.

  10. Cisse was the difference between West Ham and Liverpool reserves. That happy hammer won't be so happy when we unleash: 'Super' Stevie G Xabi 'The Magician' Alonso Peter 'Crouchamania' Crouch Pepe 'Impervious' Reina Jonny 'Rocket' Riise Harry 'The Australian Lightning' Kewell
  11. Don't know and don't care - I'm still going to vote for lil' luis!

  15. He seems to be getting better on the booking front... The one against Bolton was his first in nine games. However, the last time he had a decent booking free spell (eight games from sep-oct), he followed up with eight yellows and a red in 16 games....
  16. Against the tougher teams: ............Reina Finnan.....Hyypia...Carra......Riise .......Alonso.....Momo SWP.....Gerrard......Gonzales ...........Kuyt Against the cannon fodder: .......Reina Finnan....Hyppia.....Carra......Riise SWP....Gerrard...Alonso....Gonzales ........Kuyt.....Fowler Against Everton: ............Carra Alonso.................Fowler
  17. I don't see why anyone would restrict themselves only to the players they've seen. The official site says: "we are inviting fans to vote for who they believe to be the ten greatest Liverpool players of all-time" I've not seen Roger Hunt play, but considering he scored 286 goals in 492 games for us, and is our record league goalscorer, it would be a bit difficult to justify putting Emile Heskey (who I have seen play) ahead of Sir Roger in a list of '10 all-time greatest Liverpool players'... For the record - 1. Kenny Dalglish 2. Ian Rush 3. Billy Liddell 4. Ray Clemence 5. Roger Hunt 6. Graeme Souness 7. John Barnes 8. Alan Hansen 9. Robbie Fowler 10. Emlyn Hughes
