Just seems sensible to me that if the banners can be produced and delivered for considerably less, the whole project becomes more viable. As far as I see it, the main extras for offshoring are quality control and making sure no-one substitutes a cheaper but unacceptable material (fire hazard). But that's what doing business with China is all about: need to get the specifications and payment watertight. Incidentally, there is a very high probability that the materials used for the first one were made in China anyway. Thanks...

Appreciate that Maldini, but I never post on RAWK. (Just never had time to keep a constant presence on another forum so never registered) We do have a fair few RAWK regulars on here though and as this is a thread all about raising money for the banner... The current project is all but complete. What about future banners? Cost is everything: if there is a much cheaper way of producing, it really should be explored. Tetti: appreciate the input, I just need ballpark figures to see if I can get lower quotes. The production of advertising banners printed on plastic/fabric sheeting is absolutely standard over here. Given the cheapness of the materials (in China) and the labour, should be easy to get a lower quote. Having lived here for 25 years and being in business with China, my experience is that there are very few things that cannot be sourced cheaper here...

Can anyone give a realistic figure showing how much it cost (total) and, specifically, the cost of the material (with specs for actual fabric/plastic used), the cost of the printing... I ask cos when this subject was first raised, I mentioned the fact that it could be produced for much less in China. I'd like to be able to check this out.

If it is a retinal detatchment, it all depends on how large an area is affected and where the detatchment occurs. Some parts are much more of a problem than others regarding re-attatchment. The specialists will have a very clear idea of this by now. Really hope he gets good news soon.
