I'm struggling to think of anything at all that the ref gave us. He stopped TAA nicking yards on a throw-in ... but then let him take it from the advanced position anyway. I reckon that was about it. As opposed to: Valencia handball - pen Valencia assault on Mane - yellow card minimum, nothing given Fellaini bringing Mane down in the box - pen Valencia handball - pen Rashford making a challenge whilst out of control - second yellow, sending off Rashford jumping into the crowd whilst celebrating a goal - second yellow, sending off Sanchez blocking a quickly taken free-kick - yellow card I guess that's fairly balanced though. Trent did nick ten yards after all.

Awarding a penalty can never be considered a mistake on the referee's part?

We've been playing great football and it's been really effective. Ignoring City, there is nothing between us and the two teams above us - by the time the fixtures even out (i.e. by the middle of May), we'll be able to properly appreciate/evaluate just how good we are. I have enjoyed watching us this season more than any, bar the Suarez whirlwind, for ages.

I think that's spot on. Footy chat, now known/justified/excused as "banter" as you rightly say, is really depressing these days. It used to be interesting to talk to fans of other clubs and get different perspectives - doesn't feel that way any more. I saw Arsenal fans attempting to take the piss out of Liverpool fans yesterday because Spurs had gone above us in the League - Arsenal fans celebrating Spurs moving up the League? Strange behaviour.

I don't know if there is any truth in whether Klopp likes him personally - I've never seen anything to suggest that he does, but there is no way on earth that it'd affect his selection anyway.

Agreed. Don't think we really missed Phil on Saturday anyway - he'd have just been one of those bodies in the central third of the pitch, where it was packed anyway. Maybe he'd have picked a ball, maybe not. We should have won anyway, if we'd put one of our 3 or 4 penalties away.
