Materazzi was definitely out for revenge. Even the Italian commentators were stating it after they saw that nasty challenge he made on Torres round about the 30 min mark. I switched channels after that as I was fearing the worst.

Most people who know how Torres and Materazzi play could see this happening. I have always thought that Materazzi was an ill disciplined and overrated defender. Yes he can score a goal or two but he is not in the class of the likes of Cannavaro and Nesta. The World Cup final typified him. Conceded a penalty and then scored a goal. He then got Zidane sent off which really shows what an idiot Zidane was on the night. All Zidane needed to do was to rile Materazzi a little bit and it would have been Materazzi walking off the pitch two minutes later. The only pity about this sending off is that Torres will not be up against Materazzi in 3 weeks time. Cordoba's loss is a much bigger blow to Inter.
