Zidane was by no means slow, he was also a far better player than Alonso. Pirlo isn't quick by any means you're right, but the point is its getting rarer and harder to find modern players who do not posess pace, athleticism and mobility. I'm not saying its good for the game but its the way its going and at great pace! See what I did there?

Hassony and I have aired our different views on Xabi in the past and I'm of the opinion that we've agreed to differ? Makelele is STILL faster than Xabi, Carrick and Mikel are significantly faster than Xabi, in his Soccer AM quotes Xabi says he is the slowest player at the club, is he wrong as well? Molby would struggle to play in the modern game in the condition he was in, he would be swarmed all over in midfield and would be unable to cope with it, unless he 'did an Alonso' and played around with the 2 CB's. Pace is a must for a modern footballer its true!

Pace is a must for every footballer mate, Makelele, Mikel and Carrick are all significantly quicker round the pitch than Alonso. Dunga and even moreso Molby belong to a long gone era and I would go so far as to say that Molby, who was a footballing genius, would struggle to make it in today's game. Paula Radcliffe can run much further than Gerrard but I know who's the most mobile and so do you. As for Alonso covering more ground than the other players, is it because they all read the game better than him and are in better positions in the first place? I'm not knocking him but I think his game has limitations that's all.

He's doing OK to be fair, still taking the ball in the area that the CB's should be playing in and making the easy 10 yard pass far too often but he's improved his game so far this season, and looks to be a little more 'urgent' when in posession. Personally I think he will continue to struggle with his lack of pace and mobility but we'll see, I'd like to point out that after Skrtel got injured Sky put up his figures so far this season and he has a 91% pass success rate which is higher than Xabi's, so lets not go silly over stats and tables - apart from the league table of course! FWIW I think we'll still be looking to 'swap' him out and Barry in over the next 12 months.

RE: Emlyn Hughes I left him out so as not to break up the Hansen Lawrensen partnership, but he would probably get into a "Best 11 Liverpool players" selection - he was awesome in so many positions. Rush was as fast as anybody, good with both fet, good in the air, worked his a*** off long before it became fashionable to do so - Rush was the blueprint for the modern striker. If Rushie was playing today he'd be worth more than Ronaldo, he really was that f***ing good. The only player I've seen to compare to him, although they were different types of striker, was Van Basten.

I find it strange that Marcus Babbel gets mentioned after only a couple of seasons here at the end of his career but Rob Jones doesn't when he played for us for longer and would have been the best RB in England for 10 years if he'd stayed fit? Agger is an extremely good defender right now, he has the potential and physical attributes to be the stand-out CB of his generation and letting him go would be madness in my opinion. Carra-skrtel is working fine at the moment but Agger should turn out to be better than both of them.

Is Skrtel taller than Agger really? Agger's about 6'4" I don't think Skrtel is that tall?

He is our first choice LB but as posted many times by many people he's conctantly injured/recovering from injury. Long term its got to be Dossena/Insua.
