David a lot of what you say could be true. However if we really want Owen do you not think that Owen will have been made aware of this (and will have known about our interest one way or another), without us having to rush out and get involved in an auction with someone?

I think this is true, I also think that he'll have made it clear that there are to be no "1st options" on Xabi or Gerrard etc. I'm still of the opinion that if Rafa wants a player and thinks that the player is worth "X", then the money will be made available by the board. They won't just drop their trollies and get screwed over if they don't think the player is worth "X", and that is how it should be.
