Siblings usually go to the same school

It’s not irrational, but I reckon the club don’t want them to stay; they are clearing the decks of players we have squeezed the maximum out of. It’s in everyone’s interest to refresh. We can’t currently get past City with our set up as it is so something has to change. It makes sense to cash in and try something new whilst still keeping the vast majority of our excellent side. Our forwards have now been in three cup finals and not managed a single goal. Time to change. The club is ruthless and long may it remain so.

Just looking at it from the club’s point of view, would they want to give 4 year contracts on massive wages to two players who are going the wrong side of 30 in a team whose playing style is so demanding? If we do lose one or both of Salah and Mane I reckon it’s because the club wants it rather than the players want it. If we really wanted them to stay we could make it happen with resigning bonuses etc so as not to affect the wage structure. Also it would be much easier to attract new, young forwards if there are places up for grabs rather than trying to force their way past those two. I am not having a go at either; they have been brilliant for us and owe us nothing. Likewise we owe them nothing and the club will be looking to move forward for the next few seasons rather than for one year.

I wouldn’t be too bothered if Mane and Salah left now. We need to refresh so if we could get players like Nkunku and Nunez in as replacements and a dominant really skilful midfielder we could move forward.
