Schweinsteiger is a workhorse with just about enough skill for a wide player. In that sense, he seems to fit Rafa's plans in the same way as for instance Kuyt does. Not sure if need more workers though. I think we'd be better off with someone with that bit of extra skill, as we have plenty of hard workers in the team already (Riise, Momo, Gerrard, Kuyt etc.). My 3 would be: Quaresma Alves Villa I think we'd be well stocked with these 3. Possibilities all around: GK: Reina, Carson LB: Riise, Aurelio, Arbeloa, Finnan(!), Insua RB: Alves, Finnan, Arbeloa CB: Carragher, Agger, Hyypiä, Arbeloa, Paletta LM: Quaresma, Kewell, Gonzalez, Leto, Riise, Garcia RM: Alves, Gerrard, Quaresma, Pennant, Garcia CM: Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Sissoko, (Zenden) CF: Villa, Kuyt, Bellamy, Crouch, Voronin Obviously if we signed those 3, some of the ones I've listed above would leave no doubt, but I would happily let, say Crouch, Pennant, Garcia and Gonzalez leave if it meant we signed them 3. We could go for something like this just as one example: ---------------Reina---------------- Alves, Carragher, Agger, Finnan ------Mascherano-Alonso--------- Quaresma----Gerrard-----Kewell ---------------Villa------------------ IMO, Finnan could provide more stability if he was coached to play left back (a'la Dennis Irwin) than Riise, which would be needed if we were to play Alves on the right of the defence. We'd also have enough attacking threat from the front 4 supported by a marauding Alves and occasionally Alonso with more than enough defensive cover by the 2 midfield sitters and even Gerrard. All ifs and buts though, but if ManU can piss away with the league title with this type of formation: -------------Carrick------------ Ronaldo----Scholes-----Giggs ---------Rooney---------------- -----------------Saha----------- ...then I don't think we'd be "too attacking" with the type of formation I suggested above.
