  1. Interesting this. Last season when we conceded a late goal the majority of threads and posts centered on blaming the defence and the goals conceded. But I guess last night's late goal was partly due to slack marking by our 'more beloved' players so we let that go...
  2. Just bite your lip and take it on the chin. There's a former Liverpool captain whose name no-one ever spells right here... I'll be praying extra hard for a victory then. You have been really tiresome in the past twelve or so hours.
  3. On OUR right. Evra... I agree that Gerrard gave him too much space to get upfield on several occasions.
  4. I agree. This is a knee-jerk de luxe.
  5. OK, let's say you put Cisse also on the 'agenda' (you know the one that you're 'not supposed to have' ). You have made your point last night (and the same goes for your son). Put it on your sigs or something. Please. Oh, and I'm sure Emile is a nice lad, but 2000-1 was a long time ago I think defenders nowadays hate playing against him as they're so afraid of conceding against him. That'd be an embarrassment of the highest order.
  6. Mildly amusing? It's so sad that I'm embarrassed for him...
  7. No need telling us that. We would have guessed anyway.
  8. Cisse is getting way too much stick here. It is pure instinct to go for the ball even if one is injured. I have done that, failed and regretted trying. Now I'm no Cisse, nor have I ever been a footballer of any repute (apart from woeful) but even I couldn't help it.
  9. There was an article on The Times' website about a month ago (by someone called Finkelstein if memory serves) which basically stated that Riise has been more important to our success this season than Gerrard. I'm not sure I agree with that...

    Red Cards

Just what I was thinking. We are causing the opponents a lot of problems and they are making desperate red card worthy errors. We are better and they're trying to keep up. Except they can't
  11. Sami and his Finnish international team mate in the Spurs line-up, Teemu Tainio, apparently had had a good old banter via text messages all week long. Tainio promised to nutmeg Sami etc. I don't he came very close to doing that...
  12. Sami was back to his best as well. In fact he looked sharp out there. Some of them interceptions were top class and he'll soon get those 2-3 goals he scores every season.
  13. A goal from Harry was always coming, he's gone so close a few times lately. I'm VERY pleased for him. A more confident Kewell can only be good for the team.
  14. Sorry, I forgot that you own the copyright for common sense and personal experience. I guess DH wants to claim exclusive ownership for law of averages and theory then...
  15. Strange how the price range keeps dropping here. From record breaking (meaning at least £ 14m) to £7-10...
  16. Hypothetically dealing late in the transfer window might have been a calculated risk by the way. That way there is less time for other clubs to hijack any potential deal. But the plan backfired (at least) in the Simao case cause Benfica acted the way day did.
  17. Never mind...
  18. There's no 'if' in my case, I was around and followed our beloved team's fortunes from the early seventies. I don't have to look up the history books (yet) to recall how we've become the most successful English club. By a 'big signing' you seem to mean something else than other posters in this thread. DH talked about 'the anticipation of record breaking signings' and that was my reference point. I think someone said £30m as well. In that context £7m was 'cheapish' (I used that). For you my 'cheapish' may be a 'big signing' (and it is in a more general context). Our neighbours made bigger signings than us in the 70s, probably used more money all in all. Citeh paid an absurd amount on a mediocre player like Steve Daley. In my opinion we have never been even close to being the biggest spenders out there. Now, with Chelsea around, there's no fear of that, but I don't want us to be the 2nd biggest spenders either.
  19. Most of our greatest players since I started following LFC were NOT big money buys. Kenny certainly was but he cost less than we received for Keegan and was a direct replacement. Souness was also expensive but he cost much less than Kenny. Beardsley was relatively expensive. Collymore, Heskey and Diouf cannot be considered under the greatest players moniker but certainly cost a lot, (but we recouped most of Collymore's price). Since Heskey we have made 3 (three) 10M+ signings, which in my opinion is not a lot in the context of our successes and compared to other teams of 'our stature'. It is difficult to judge purely on the basis of the prices as to how many times we've broken the bank for a player and who can be considered a 'big name'. But I'd say we've managed to keep a cool head in our transfer dealings over the years.
  20. His injuries started already at Barca. So effectively he hasn't been 100% fit since, what 1999...
  21. Ridiculous and unrealistic alternatives there. There is also the middle ground, you know, there's no need to polarize things. Which poster on here could be able to judge this Bolanos fella having seen him only in once (besides we've already descided not to sign him) and we'd never get Joaquin for £12m. That'd be a bargain price for a 'big name' and sure I'd take it. But the big names may destabilize the squad cause their wages are huge and there's the media hassle. Anyway, I trust Rafa and if he decides to sign a 'big name', I'm all for it. However, I don't think that will happen and I'll be content with whoever he brings in (or if he doesn't bring in anyone). I think we can become a 'proven quality' team, we have never relied on buying expensive proven quality individuals.
  22. He played as much as he could. He could barely walk after training sessions, so it wasn't a question of Houllier not wanting to use him. Not most of the time anyway.
  23. And the runaway winner is - Wes Brown!
  24. It is at least 50% cheaper than the "transfer record near breaking buy" you were referring to earlier in this very thread.
  25. The crowd is gathering it seems... Who needs those galacticos? They're more trouble than they're worth. And once we pay the 30 million there's no turning back, we'll end up paying double for every player. Do we want to go down that route? I don't think we need to.
