He respects his step-dad and took his advice. It's a shame his step dad happens to be one of the biggest f*ckwits on the face of the planet. Ian Wright may have been a success in the game but that doesn't mean he'd have learnt in some sort of Pavlovian style what good and bad advice is. I don't know the situation with his advisers and I suspect you don't either. He made a bad decision and now he's living with it. Hopefully a lesson for others and yet more reasons for everyone, especially the media, to get on Chelsea's back and increase the pressure on them.
