Just checked out that video highlight reel of Aquilani there and looks like he had a rather spiffing game. The one thing that stood out to me was how comfortable he looked carrying the ball. Epic.

How can he be proactive before a match? His style is counter attacking football, hes never going to change that. Misunderstood your last point in fairness. I thought you meant we had lesser cover. As for that point, I dont think you can really smite him for signing shorter players. He needs to buy the footballers we can afford who have the greatest level of footballing ability. Size should come into it unless we are looking at centre backs.

You dont rate him despite him scoring a fantastic amount of goals from the wing? On top of that I think you underestimate the partnership of Johnson and Kuyt. Think of it as a traditional defensive defender and a proper winger, only back to front. I think it would be quite impressive once they get used to each other.

Yes, all three points highly agreeable. Except largely wrong. 1)Looking at the first team this season: Johnson - quicker than arbeloa Torres Gerrard Insua - quicker than Aurelio Ngog Babel Riera is hardly slow. Mascherano is quick enough too. 2) He has his style and he sticks to it. I dont understand how much more he can be proactive. Personally, I dont think a club with the players we have should be moulding ourselves to stop certain opposition and I for one am glad that he sticks with one formation. Why on earth he would set up a team a certain way, train it into them and then be proactive during a match when nothing of note has happened is a disastrous thought. If its not broken, dont fix it. 3) Budget limitations. Theres not much else to add.
