growler Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 - Gerrard to stop taking corners- The short Corner - What is that about?- Crossing, and attacking a cross - Someone get in there!- Finisher - enough said- Turn possession into creativity. For all our possession, we really only had 3 chances to score against charlton. seeing as anything that comes from our player, and is 'on target' counting as a shot on goal, the stats are a little skewed, seeing as most of them for us have been passes to the opposition keeper, or shots straight at him.- Gerrard to stop taking free kicks- Ban shooting first from 25+ yards. when was the last time one was even on target, let alone a goal? sometimes it feels like McAteer is back.- Tell Traore to not bother going up for a corner. If you can't direct a header out of our defence correctly, its unlikely you'll be able to direct one of our corners into the goal, providing it finds its way to one of our players in the box.- Players to be told when the game enters the 65/70th minute. I don't think the players realised that we were entering the last quarter of the match against charlton as there was no change in tempo, or push up the pitch.- Fowler or cisse to take penalties. Period. no arguments. General observations, some from last game, some from recent games, some just glaring.
Guest DanTheDaggerman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 - Stop shifting free-kicks around the box. It is a waste. The players often look surprised that it has happened and gives the opposition ample time to charge down the actual shot.
Guest Jack Bauer Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 The only thing which a Riise "special" has accomplished for a few years is breaking Alan Smiths leg. Please stop them and reserve them for a random Chelsea player.
stressederic Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 It seems like a long time ago last season when our shifted free kicks to Gerrard were regularly hitting the back of the net.
_00_deathscar Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Everton last season...West Brom (this season? or lasT) Pompey last season...scored quite a few like that.
stressederic Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 It was West Brom last season. Arsenal away as well.
Bootle Buck Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 1.Gerrard needs to take some free kick and corner lessons from Fat Frank. He whips them in to the box and always causes problems for the keeper or puts it on someones head. 2. Sammi needs to be more aggressive and attack the ball. His an Crouch's height are not used effectively in the box. 3. Our forwards need to stop coming 30 yards out to get the ball and stay in the box. When our midfielders get the ball our forwards are coming back instead of getting into dangerous positions in the box. 4. Practice shooting, it is on the whole woeful. Gerrard, Kewell, Riise and Hamman are mostly wayward with their shots.
Maldini Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 The only difference between us and Chelsea on the pitch at the moment is attackign set-pieces, they're brilliant at them and we're crap. I don't know why we don't try that old Gary Mac one from the treble year where he used to chip it in to the front post for Babbel to get the flick, very hard to defend against. It'd be very hard to stop Crouchy winning that first header too.
growler Posted March 6, 2006 Author Posted March 6, 2006 its true, we don't utilise Crouch's height enough. Any having a striker stay in the box seems a standard thing. Not sure why we don't do it. Also, when we are defending a corner, keep a striker on the halfway line, to exploit a counterattack. we don't need cisse, Garcia, moro and Kewell in our box when they have a corner.

Koogan Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) we don't utilise Crouch's height enough. Crouchie is better on the ground than in the air. Strange (and sad) but true. He does get to the end of crosses but he does not have the ability to 'control' the ball with his head or direct it in any useful way. The ball just sort of hits him on the head. He either times his jump wrong or does not have any neck muscles at all... Edited March 6, 2006 by Koogan
