Nando's miss at Wigan

I reckon it was a better save than a miss.

All you ask of strikers is to get them on target, Nando was stretching and controlled his half volley well.

A save more than a miss for me.

I agree. Either side of the keeper and its a goal, so Morientes should take some flak for that, but he hit the target and the keeper had to make a save.

What was great about the move though was Robbie's contribution. The ball took a wicked bobble just before he crossed it yet the cross was perfect.

If Morientes was stretching he shouldn't have been. That might have been our one chance in a game and for me was as bad as Cisse's miss at Old Toilet.

bolllocks. he hit the target from a half-volley. they often end up in orbit. good save, eight times out of ten that hits the net.

and if you think he's "incapable" you've never really watched a lot of football.

b******s to you and all sir!

Top strikers only need one chance to hit the net. Moro had his - 10 yards out - unmarked - and hit the keeper. Bad miss.

I've seen enough games and enough s*** strikers to recognise one when I see one mate; don't you worry.

top strikers still miss. sometimes 'keepers even save their shots and earn their money.

and to say morientes is "sh*t" is simply incorrect. he's a superb, arguably world class forward who we haven't seen the best of in a red shirt.

Listen - if you're not gonna be serious I'm not gonna continue to discuss this...

Superb? World Class?

You've been on the sauce already :bleh:

My first reaction was that he'd done well to keep it on target and the keeper had made a great save. Looking at the replay though, he only needed to put it a few yards to the left or right and he would have scored, as it was straight at the keeper and you'd expect him to save it. Should have scored but not the worst miss I've ever seen.

i have as it goes, but nevertheless.

you ever see him play for madrid? or for his season with monaco? he's a top drawer forward with terrific ability and technique. to argue otherwise is daft mate, honestly.

now you're backtrackin' Stevie.

Adriano. Shevchenko. Hnery. RVN (?) are all world class. Moro certainly isn't in that bracket.

Yes I saw him play for Madrid. And I also saw him play for Monacco.

I'll say two things:-

Any half decent striker will score goals for Madrid in La Liga. Agreed?

Stefan Guivarche scored loads of goals in France. :P (I was gonna use Djibs here!)

He only scored nine in Ligue 1, he was superb in Europe though. But his best attribute was his heading, and apart from that one header against Fulham he seems to have lost that.

Some amazing s**** on this thread, Kev's fault for starting the thing ;)

ps. Anyone who thinks the save from Nando's half-volley is as bad as Cisse's ballooning the ball over the bar the other week ought to be committed immediately.

That's my opinion.

For a striker of his reputation, not based on "potential" (which far outweighs Cisse's) it's as bad.

Had Nando crossed it Robbie would have side-footed it in.

It appears to me that the people who are defending Moro are all harking back to his PAST performances. They say he's class and will (eventually) deliver. :o

How come then that people are saying that Fowler is past is best and is only a short term solution? Surely the same applies to both players?

A half fit Fowler is of more use to us than a fully fit Morientes. Full Stop. No arguements. End of.

You've never played football other than on a computer.

You've never watched football properly at all.

RVN - 8,651 goals

Shearer - 12,377 goals

Utter b******s not to credit the keeper with the save.

Poor support not to credit Morientes with the shot.

Well I played to a decent standard and I've seen a lot of football as well.

Yes, the goalkeeper made a decent save. But he shouldn't have been near it.

Morientes has mucho goodwill based on his proven class in other leagues but he is not cut out for the Premiership. That miss was a bad one and I repeat that if Robbie had been on the end of it rather than creating it, the ball would have been six inches inside one of the posts.

Morientes has no confidence at present but he's humoured more than Cisse who is just not good enough. Unfortunately, for different reasons, they are in the same boat.

Can we just put to bed this inference that Morientes cost Fowler a goal? He cost him a chance. Robbie would still have had plenty to do (and if his form over the past few years is anything to go by, he'd have f***ed it up).

Everybody(fyds especially ;)) seems to have ignored the fact Fowler gave Morientes a few yards head start and still beat him to the ball.
