Rafa vs. Mourinho

I suppose it helps a club when you have an owner who doesn't care at all about losing money. That being the case, Mourinho's arrogance isn't making loads of fans of Chelsea. As a matter of fact it is amazing how unpopular they are given their recent success.

On the other hand, people like us. Rafa is having a lot to do with that (obviously along with our amazing history). But, Rafa is honourable, classy and respectful. Not a big-headed offensive tw*t like Mourinho.

His comment about Rafa yesterday is typical. "I don't care about what Benitez has to say". Rafa would never say something like that because he has tons of class.

Mourinho may think he's incredibly successful. He has been successful on the pitch but he has had a unique situation to work within. Unlimited money for players and no need to become popular. That formula would not work elsewhere.

Not enough bad things can happen to him.

Im not relaxed at all lol, far from it, I hate chelsea, they stand for what is wrong with football, but you've just gotta get on with it.

We are a football club back on the up we lost the champions of england and so have alot of teams and their isn't much we can do about it.

The run was going to end sooner or later, its just how we handle it, 50% have handled it with confidence and 50% have had a rant at Jose Mourinho, as much as he lacks class thats why we didn't lose the game we lost the game because they were the better team,

Truth Hurts

I find ranting pretty cathartic. Can't say there was that big a difference yesterday. That is what makes it all the more annoying to me.

If their was one noticiable difference it was a word called.

STRIKERS.

End Rant lol

I agree about not dwelling on the class vs no-class issue, but I think there is a valid point.

Chelsea were not hated nearly as much as they are now when Ranieri was in charge..... He had one season of sucking at the russian pimps teats, yet although he was not successfull, he maintained a dignity that most people respected, even though they may of resented the fact that he had limitless funding.

sooner or later Borinho will learn that no matter what he does at chelsea he will not get the respect of his peers. he needs to do it in a top league with a 'normal' club. That is why Benitez will always have more respect because of how he did it at Valencia. its why Fungus gets respect for bringing through Beckham, scholes etc and building that team. wenger ditto. borinho did it at Porto, but until he does it in a top league it won't mean anything. Its the equivelant of the scottish championship.

If he had had chosen Liverpool over Chelsea way back when you'd all cream yourselves at every comment he makes.

"Oh he likes Shanks", finding excuses to fill the void of being nowhere near them.

He's a great manager, why argue it, of course £££££ helps but he did it at Porto on a smaller budget than Benitez had when he won the Champions League at Liverpool and he won the league and UEFA Cup too on what I'd guess a smaller budget than that of Valencia.

I'm not knocking Benitez as a manager, you got to respect what he's done but saying Mourinho lacks class and so on and so forth is just making excuses.

He takes the pressure off his players by letting him get all the attention, therefore the players go out of there way to fight for him on the pitch when he's get criticised in the press or by the opposition, excellent management.

Can't he lack class and be a good manager?

I don't think he lacks class though, he has an opinion, I think he has alot of confidence, maybe arrogance but confidence in your own ability is nothing new.

I can see why people would think he's arrogant and lacking class but if he was English then he'd be even more idolisied by the press and would he be called arrogant and lacking class?

I just think that he has a superior confidence in his own ability and that of his players and if you feel confident that your team will win every game then you have to prove it and most of the time he and his team have proved it.

I don't see how you can be a good manager and lack class because you have to earn respect to be a good manager and therefore you have to have class, the man has class, maybe in a different way to some but he still has class.

He's passionate about his club and passionate about his ability of managing the club, can't argue with that.

Right now, my own view is that Mourinho is more in control of his sound-bites and comments than Rafa is. Nothing to do with "class", he's just in a better position.

From all I hear from Portugal, the man has a history of winding up opposing fans. It's just part of his game.

Being good and having class are two completely different matters. Having class is about how you conduct yourself and your respect for the opposition. Just for a reference point, managers who have class: Rafa Benitez, Iain Dowie, Alan Curbishley, Arsene Wenger, Martin Jol.

Managers who don't: Mourinho, Ferguson, Warnock

I'd rather have someone like Mourinho than say Souness - hiding from the press and wrapped in his own shell of failure yet always making excuses for it. There is real arrogance in Souness, Mourinho is just sometimes cocky and has the ability to back it up.

Its not as if Rafa doenst moan about referees or shout at the linesmen during games etc.

I actually think that Mourinho was trying to avoid being drawn into the debate about Robben's behaviour and wanted to focus on the significance of a victory over the team that many of the press in his audience had held out as his closest rivals. Whilst his style is not to my taste and I do not detect any great passion for his club, Mourinho is a good manager who knows how to get under the opposition's skin.

We would be hypocrites if we start to criticise his behaviour against us when we praised similar behaviour when he was managing Porto against United.

In my view a classy manager would have criticised Robben or joined in with Rafa's joke (which was also designed to deflect the questions away from an issue which could have landed Rafa in trouble with the FA). What saddens me is that there is no manager who is prepared to publicly criticise a player who so obviously has feigned a foul/injury to secure an advantage for his team. I may be old fashioned but the general acceptance that Robben's behaviour yesterday is now part of the game sickens me. Before I get accused of LFC bias, I feel that Sissoko and even Gerrard (to name but two) go to ground far to easily and that football is now rapidly becoming a non-contact sport. It would have been a great statement if Wiley had sent off Robben and/or Gallas for their reactions to Reina's behaviour.

I would like to see a team which:

(a) does not surround the ref every time the opposition get awarded a free kick or, even worse, when an opponent commits a bad foul on one of our team; and

(b) do not audition for the local amateur dramatic society every time an opponent comes near them.

It is the fact that Chelsea players are regularly guilty of both of the above that makes it so hard to acknowledge how good a side they are. The fact that Mourinho is inactive in stamping out these distractions causes me to have no respect for him.

Souness would be on the "no class" list. But, he's not a manager so he's on neither list.

Mourinho does make excuses when he loses, he has even denied losing after a match.

I'd like to see mourinho go to newcastle and show us how great he is.

so him winning the champions league with a lesser team means nothing but if he did it with say a normal side like valencia or man utd someone like them who have better teams would be more impressive.... how does that make any sense, sure winning the portuguese league isnt that impressive but he won the bloody champions league.

now i hate chelsea as much as the next person for the crappy reasons that everyone else does (limited transfer funds & teams a bunch of c...s) but you cant say he's not a good manager

yeh but i hate him and lampard and essien. how can essien put a foot through hammans leg not even get booked same with lampard breaking alonsos ankle its just stupid and how many penalties should have we had against for bloody handballing the ball in the box. yeh buts that all just my stress

I do agree to a certain extent that its starting to be a little bit of an excuse of us but your reasons are flawed and (understandably) biased against us.

1) you cant compare how much hes getting now vs how much he got at porto because the premiership and portugese league are vastly different in quality 2) you cant compare his accomplishments at porto compared to benitez's accomplishment at valencia for the same reason.

You are underestimating how much $ helps. If handled wisely, it improves the team exponentially and buys the team ALOT of time before the rest of the teams can catch up( see chelsea now and ac milan in the past). If handled wrongly, well, theres newcastle and leeds. Chelsea has clearly set a new benchmark and I am sure it will only be a matter of time their quality will "taper off".

Maybe Jose is changing, from Tuesdays BBC gossip page

Jose Reina says Chelsea's Arjen Robben 'deserves an Oscar' for the way he fell to the ground in Monday's Premiership match against Liverpool. (Daily Star) :o

that is our jose, not that 'jose'
