Scary Monsters is at 27.

Bowie wanting to give Golden Years to Elvis was the nugget that took me by surprise. Actually sounding quite good in my head.

Knew number one would be Sound and Vision.

Would not have been the first song to come to mind, but on reflection it's a great shout

I always think that even amongst all the innovation and experimentation, his utter greatness is just how many strange, off-kilter pop songs he has. Cool as f*** that one.

I didn’t.  Very happy about it tho.

No Wild is the Wind in these here times is just being silly tho.

I guess as that's a cover it's not strictly a Bowie song.

I did feel like the 50 shoe-horned a few pieces in for the sake of providing a balanced view of the whole career but probably, for me, some of them might sneak into a top 100, but probably not 50.

Great to see The London Boys in there - amazing record a with a fantastic vocal performance.

By the way, his 'new' record arrived yesterday. I'm just about to give it a spin after completing my chores for the day.

Sweet Thing. I must play it, it's been ages.

I just read this again for the millionth time and had to post. Was this utterly magnificent or what?

I'm having so much fun with the poisonous people
Spreading rumors and lies and stories they made up
Some make you sing and some make you scream
One makes you wish that you'd never been seen
But there's a shop on the corner that's selling papier mache
Making bullet-proof faces: Charlie Manson, Cassius Clay
"If you want it, boys, get it here, thing"

It's great how that lyric accelerates as it goes on. The pacing of the words is fantastic...it's all long vowel sounds to start with and then gets faster and punchier as it goes along. It's not poetry but its awareness of poetic techniques is very clear.

Isn't it just. I particularly love the live versions of Sweet Thing, Width of a Circle and Diamond Dogs from David Live, and Earl Slick deserves a mention too,
