Not 100% sure. But not sure how we use Wharton. I think I'd prefer Rogers of those two

Maybe its future-proofing Mac Allister leaving.

Wharton and Rogers are two different players though. Rogers isnt a midfielder (6/8) he can play out wide but he thrives in behind the striker.

We could use Wharton more, his ability to progress the ball in midfield, especially when pressed would be fantastic for us.

Rogers seemed Gerrard-esque to me watching him last night. I think he could play anywhere in midfield, but not DM, or that would be a waste. I take your point on Wharton though

Personally I see Wharton and Gravenberch being similar. They are both comfortable receiving the ball in deep, tight spaces and progressing upfield 30 yards with no bother but neither have shown the ability to press high until the pitch like Macca or Szoboslai.

I think this is our last season with Salah, Allison, MacAllister, Gakpo and Konate.

And the transition will still be happening at the start of next season and I still think our evolution to a 4-2-2-2 is happening.

Love wharton but he misses a fair few game doesn’t he.

Sounds like he's made for us then

Gravenberch can't pass the ball long. We need someone in the back 5 who can.

Agreed, helps with the absence of trents ability

Rogers make no sense when we already have Wirtz and Szoboszlai.

Szobo especially. He and Rogers seem quite similar as players, No10s whose strengths are mostly in their running power.

VVD is not bad

He isn't but it can't just be him, otherwise teams just set up to keep the likes of Konate and Kerkez as the spare men.
