Totting Up - driving ban

So about 3 weeks away from 3 points dropping off my licence, which would reduce the number from 9 to 6, I got caught last Sunday by one of these community coffin-dodger-held cameras, so once I plead guilty I'll have 12 points and a court summoins which will likely lead to a 6 month ban.

Anyone know of any decent north-west based lawyers who deal with this kind of stuff?

You've a few weeks to respond don't you?

Take your time.

Then ask to see a photo.

= a Delay for 3 weeks

Send off to the DVLA for a new licence, which comes back with 6 points on it and voila! You owe me £5

Haha - QED.

Anyhow, turns out, it's not a problem after all, but I have just won the Duncan Disorderly Memorial Forum Klutz Of The Month Award. The letter looked like a 'you've been nicked' thing but I failed to read the very last line which said "So as this was one of our Community patrollers and not an official speed trap, on this occasion you are let off with a warning, but be careful, sonny, we're watching you".

I had one of these once driving through a village, was sure a fine and points were coming my way then received the very same warning letter. Seems a waste of time and money to me, if they are going to bother with this sort of thing they should at least have some consequence

Looks like your letter reading skills are as good as your speed limit sign reading skills

;)

I'm one to talk. I have 6 points currently. 3 due to come off soon but I hear they have increased the length of time they stay on your licence for now?

That's one of the things I've checked this week - they stay on your licence for between 4 and 11 years depending on the offence, but they only count towards your total for three years.

Insurers take a different view and use offences over three years to bump up your premiums.
