The Hitman Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Not sure if this is the best place to post, but just finished this article by David Conn.In a sea of mediocre journalism, he always manages to put good stuff together, this is well worth a read. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/apr/12/hillsborough-battle-orgreave
Epic Swindle Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 It's brilliant and cuts right through the corruption. Shame only a handful of football fans outside of Liverpool will let it sink in.
Roscoe Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Some of the guardians recent football coverage, coverage of us and in particular the suarez stuff has been awful sub tabloid s****, but they have usually been brilliant when it comes to hillsborough.
Nottsgriff Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Yep, probably my favourite journalist (along with Paul Kimmage for his interviews). Always gets to the real heart of the matter he's covering, whether it's non-league or Champions League. I remember he also got a load of abuse from our fans when he was one of the first to point out in detail the financial flaws in Hicks and Gillett's plans, but few of us wanted to hear it at the time.
JRC Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Good piece, and straight as a die from Conn, as we have come to expect from him, if not from his fellow Guardianista Makes a connection for me that I've thought of previously; having read David Peace's GB84 and The Damned Utd, I always felt I would like to see his take on Hillsborough, as it is clearly within his area of interest - SY, Police, Corruption, Politics, Press and Injustice. And Football . Some would feel uneasy about a fictionalisation of Hillsborough (as opposed to Jimmy McGovern's Hillsborough, which was a fairly straight dramatisation - although I suppose you could argue his Cracker episode was a fictionalised version), but GB84 is powerful, intense and suitably coruscating.
