Another central defender, and an attacking midfielder.

Tenuous links, maybe... but I'd be encouraged to see another defender coming in, and he can play midfield too. A left footed centre half could spell the end for Agger though, and Vertonghen seems to be very much in the Agger mould.

Know nothing about the other fella, other than the fact that he's Uruguayan, so he's obviously ace.

Ramirez is a left winger, does that mean downing on the right?

Personally i would not have bought Downing, good player but just not the level we need.

Like i said we need a midfield dynamo

I've heard this a few times the last couple of days and it's mental. He's been consistently one of our best players in every game this season.

I agree has been one of the better players but i find that if he comes up against someone who can match him

for speed then he just doesnt seem that effective, he lacks that bit of flair & skill to take him to the next level.

But there is nothing wrong with a consistant 7/10 player if other players are providng the MOTM performances

Yep, agreed mate.

Also heard people say that we'd have done well with Dirk playing. To an extent yes, he'd have given more cover to the full back, but he's being percieved as a masiah again, which he ain't.

Downing is a huge improvement on what we have had. He's been consistant and excellent until sunday, the same sunday where none of the starting twelve got anywhere near even remotely good enough.

Not seen him struggle with this since he's signed for us. He's an intelligent player with lots of attributes that have improved us massively.

Downing is a good player and we should play him on the left side. With him and Enrique our troubled left side is sorted. I would then like Maxi to have the chance to play on the right side. I think he links very well up with Suarez. With Mereiles gone and Gerrard out there are not many players that have got on with Suarez on the pitch. But Maxi does.

Then bring in attacking midfielder in january to play on the right side.

Agreed. Its been a major frustration so far for me. Keep Downing on the left, let him settle. We have options for right.

I think we could see one or two defensive additions in the next few windows. Don't want to start another Carra debate, but we all know he's approaching the end.

Skrtel isn't good enough and as good as Agger is, his injury record is pitiful. Be surprised if Kenny and DC weren't looking at singings that will completely restructure the defence over the next year or so.

It's frustrating - the best way to get Carroll scoring is to get him right up the front, get downing corssing to him, and get people supporting him. We're jsut not setting up to do that, downing's on the right, Carroll's stood in the centre circle, Suarez is way up front.

Yep. The management need to decide what they want to do with Carroll because having him drop deep is never going to work.

I've no problem with Downing switching to the right every now and then but he's been playing predominantly over there which again seems odd.

Suarez likes to work on the left. That was one reason I favoured a right winger rather than Downing during the summer.

Suarez-Carroll-Right winger gives a natural balance to a 4-3-3, then Adam Lucas Gerrard would work well behind that.

I've always thought we should have bought two wide players in this window. I know Marveaux would probably have been the second one (and he chose the Geordies) but having two wingers would give us more options (and help Carroll) plus one can cover the other if one of them was out with injury.

At the moment if Downing gets injured we have no cover for him, unless Sterling gets some playing time (and I don't think Kenny's ready to start him in the league).
