Best spirits

Following on for the favourite beers thread, what is everyone's tipple of choice when it comes to spirits?

 

I have to buy booze for Xmas and new year, both for presents and parties, and would be interested to see what people reckon is the tastiest whiskey, vodaka, brandy, rum, etc.

 

I'm not much of a drinker when it comes to spirits so haven't really got a clue what's nice and what's pish.

 

I thought Jack Daniels was supposed to be good, but someone in the beers thread said it was the "Budweiser of Whiskey's"

 

I'm Irish and most people here seem to prefer sticking to Irish whiskey anyway.
