ive just been looking at a few web sites at some bits on our players and its suddenly struck me that the spanish players we have dont use their last names on their shirts. does anyone know why its always the second to last name?

  • José Manuel Reina Páez
  • Albert Riera Ortega
  • Xabier Alonso Olona
  • Fernando José Torres Sanz

there are obviously other players that tend to use a name thats isnt whats recognisable as a western family name or use but theres obviously a pattern here and so i assume theres some significance. if anyone knows id appreciate some feedback :)

Obviously really in three cases.

We get more money in the club shop as the fans need extra letters.

Next question.

Which name do parents pass on to their kids? The first or second last name?

their first surname i believe.

So Pepe got Reina from his father (Miguel Reina Santos), and Páez from his mother (presumebly something Páez something)

I have a friend who lives in Malaga, their surname is Lopez Lopez, as their parents shared the same name.

Nothing beats Neville Neville though.

I once worked with a lawyer in Ecuador who was introduced to me upon meeting him for the very first time as "Beltran Beltran Beltran".

VERY hard not to laugh at that point.

"So, Beltran, now that we know each other a little better, can I call you Beltran instead, or shall we keep it formal and you remain Beltran?"
